Acropolis is one of the ancient sites from the Greek history in Athens. The whole of the area is called Acropolis and then in it you will see the the different Temples and other structures of the ancient Greek times. The Parthenon is the most famous temple in the site, it is the temple that is dedicated to Athena, the goddess of wisdom and war. Then there is the Erechtheion, which is also a temple and you will see the Temple of Athena Nike and the Propylea. The whole site is magnificent to watch. This site is a symbol of architectural marvels and advancement of civilization. In the 5th century after the victory against the Persians, the foundation of this marvelous complex was laid and from there on the whole place took shape. Over the centuries it was used in many different ways, it was used as a fortress, a military based and also as a religious center.

In greek Acro means high or on the edge and polis means city, which gives the name Acropolis; meaning City on the edge, or city in the air.

In today's time, it is one of the most important tourist site in Athens and if you have not visited this place then it is as good as you have not visited Athens.
