Sometimes we love something not because it is good, but because it is different from what we are used to. The evaluation criterion here is originality, exclusivity, otherness. Perhaps this is what explains my love for toning my photos with the help of cross-processing (imitation of the effect of "incorrectly developed" color film). The usual night landscape (which cameras tend to paint in yellow and purple tones) shifts to the blue-green part of the spectrum, and is invariably pleasing to the eye. (How do you color correct?)
The photo shows the Moscow Gates of St.Petersburg, erected in 1836 in honor of the victories of Russian tsarist armies in several wars of XIX century. It is an iconic architectural landmark in the southern part of the city, and I often photograph it (usually at night and sunset lighting). During its more than 150 years history, the Gate has experienced many interesting collisions, this story definitely worth telling which I will do one day, when I see a matching architectural challenge.
Иногда мы любим что-то не потому что оно именно хорошее, а потому что оно отличается от того, к чему мы привыкли. Критерием оценки здесь выступает оригинальность, эксклюзивность, инаковость. Возможно именно этим и можно объяснить мою любовь к тонированию моих фото при помощи кросс-процессинга (имитация эффекта "неправильно проявленной" цветной пленки). Обычный ночной пейзаж (который камеры склонны раскрашивать в желтые и фиолетовые тона) сдвигается в сине-зеленую часть спектра, и неизменно радует глаз. (А как вам цветокоррекция?)
На фото изображены Московские Ворота, воздвигнутые в 1836 г. в честь побед царского оружия. Это знаковый элемент, являющийся архитектурной доминантой южной части города, и я часто их фотографирую. За свою более чем 150-летнюю историю Ворота испытали немало; я обязательно расскажу вам эту историю при подходящем случае.
