“Dow Jones Industrial Average, December 29, 1978”

Acrylic on canvas, 37 x 38" 2018.

I did a brief series of these to juxtapose real life (nature, the present moment) with the abstraction of the New York Stock Exchange’s Dow Jones Industrial Average, and its vaporous numbers game. In the United States, its progress is broadcast every hour on the hour—whether its 805 in 1978 or 33,500 in 2021—the landscape and sane people care for it about as much as aardvarks desire clear shipping lanes in the Suez Canal.
Hope you like!
