CITYSCAPE PHOTOGRAPHY AND ART CONTEST WEEK #176 | Innsbruck | ESP / ENG

The Triumphpforte or Triumphal Arch of Innsbruk is a monument at the junction of the central Maximilianstraße and Leopoldstraße and is one of the entrances to the oldest part of the city. It was built in 1765 to celebrate the marriage of Archduke Leopold and the Spanish Princess Maria Luisa of Bourbon, but the celebration was short-lived, as Emperor Franz Stephan, the archduke's father, died only ten days after the wedding. For this reason, several commemorative motifs were added to the arch, as can be clearly seen in the picture. The work is perhaps the most characteristic feature of the urban landscape of the Tyrolean capital.
