Traveling to Historical Places

Hi travelers,

This is my post for the contest, Travelling to Historical Places, which is organized by @rahmat31. My country has thousands of historical places, even though Sri Lanka is small. I have visited many historical places since my childhood. I should thank my parents for taking me to visit these places. Some historical places are trendy among tourists, while others are unpopular. Most of these historical places are in the central, southern, and North-central provinces. But that doesn't mean that other provinces do not have famous sacred places.

This post is about our visit to the Anuradhapura sacred city, which is located in the North-Central province. It is mainly a Buddhist sacred city since there are a lot of Buddhist temples. These Buddhist temples are very special since these temples have huge "STUPAs." Seeing ancient people build such large constructions 2000-1000 years ago is amazing. Some of the places that we visited were "Ruwanweli Maha Seya, Sri Maha Bodhiya, Thuparamaya, Abhayagiriya, Sandahiru Seya, Kuttam Pokuna, and Isurumuniya palace."

Me, my wife, her parents, and some of her relations went on the trip, and we hired a bus for the trip. We departed home at 3.00 am and could reach Anuradhapura around 2.00 pm. After taking a shower during our stay, we went to some temples. In the next day early in the morning we went to Ruwanweli Maha Seya and Sri Maha Bodhiya. We could visit Sigirya, a worldwide famous rock castle during our journey to our hometown. We could reach our hometown at 2.00 am early in the morning the next day. It was a wonderful trip, I believe everyone enjoyed the trip, especially the kids who joined the trip.
