Greetings everyone! I hope you are all doing well and enjoying your life. This is my first post in the Steem Cameroon community. Although I have posted in different communities over the past few days, I still feel like I have a lot to learn. That’s why I’ve started participating in different contests. This is why today I am making my first post in this community. As a newbie, I am not very experienced on this platform yet so I will be looking forward to your feedback. Please let me know if you like my post by commenting and telling me what you liked about it and if there are any mistakes that need to be corrected because I want to give my best in my every post.

My understanding of “An apple a day keeps the doctor away”

“An apple a day keeps the doctor away” is a famous English proverb that endorses eating at least one apple a day but this doesn’t mean that you are allowed to eat only one apple a day, they’re so good for you that you can eat as many as you want. Apples have so many health benefits that if you make them part of your regular diet, you can avoid many illnesses. As a result, you won’t need to visit the doctor or pay heavy fees.

Now let’s discuss whether this statement is fact or fiction. In my opinion, it’s not just fiction but also fact because apples have so many health benefits. They are a complete and balanced food with numerous nutrients, fibers, minerals and vitamins. They help prevent heart diseases and are effective against cancer. Eating apples also keeps your skin fresh due to their vitamin C content and improves brain functioning. Considering all these health benefits, I would say that the above statement is not just myth or fiction but also fact.

What are some effective habits or practices that can help you maintain good health?

When I was a child, I didn’t eat many healthy foods because I wasn’t aware of their importance. I think most children are like that. Let me tell you about myself. I still remember that until 6th grade, I never ate vegetables at home. I only liked to eat meat or omelets. Whenever vegetables were cooked at home, I would get upset and refuse to eat them. Then my mother would make me an omelet instead. At school during break time, I used to eat unhealthy snacks like gol-gappas, rice, papad, taffy and ice cream. But what could I do? As a child, if my heart desired something, I would eat it. Plus, I didn’t eat fruits or drink milk either. Occasionally my mother would force me to drink milk by adding some chocolate flavoring to it in a glass. Oh, those were the days! Anyway, since I was good at studying my parents were happy with that but my physique wasn’t like other children my age and this was a concern for them because I often fell ill.

As time passed and eventually when I got admission into Punjab University, there was a lot that I learned there. One of my subjects was biochemistry and through it, I learned about carbs, proteins, lipids and vitamins related things but what played the proper role in improving my physique was the gym at Punjab University.

When I first got admission into university, I was very thin and even had to wear small-sized T-shirts and looked very odd. My back posture wasn’t right either and I used to walk hunched over. One of my friends suggested that I join the gym. He had been going to the gym for quite some time and guided me in the beginning. I still recall my first day at the gym when I could barely manage 3 push-ups and struggled to lift a 3kg dumbbell. It’s funny to think about now! 😂. But anyway, I didn’t lose hope and kept going to the gym. Along with going to the gym, I also changed my diet. By consuming a dozen bananas and half a kilo of apples daily, along with half a kilo of milk and three regular meals, I transformed my physique in just three months. My weight increased from 48kg to 64kg. Here I will definitely share an old picture of mine before and after going to the gym so you can see the result for yourself.

The picture on the left was taken when I got admission to Punjab University and this picture was taken in the corridor of the Institute of Chemistry. The picture on the right was taken after 3 months of going to the gym during our department’s annual sports gala.🙂

How did you come across these activities? Did you find them on your own or were they recommended to you by someone?

Well as far as eating healthy food is concerned, with time one becomes aware of what to eat and what not to eat. The same happened with me. Studying biochemistry also gave me a lot of knowledge about these things so I would say here that the good food habits that I adopted were my self-discovery and the result of my struggle to improve myself physically. As for going to the gym, I give credit to my friend because I was very scared that if I went to the gym people would laugh at me after seeing my condition but my friend guided me properly. After that, I started watching fitness-related videos on YouTube and they helped me a lot too.

What health benefits do your habits provide?

In my opinion, if you don’t push yourself too hard and stay within your limits while working out daily according to your body’s physique, it’s best for you. Some people in the gym resort to steroids or drugs which may build their muscles temporarily but have long-term negative effects. Everyone should give their body some time. At least one hour of workout is necessary. This will keep you stress-free, improve your sleep, increase your focus at work and help you enjoy life to the fullest.

Are these habits accessible to everyone?

Yes, in my opinion, everyone can workout. I have even seen workout videos of disabled people and was amazed to see that some people without legs were also working out. Every person’s health is in their own hands; if they want to take care of it they can improve it and if they want to neglect it they can deteriorate their health.

What are some health recommendations for Steemians?

I would advise Steemians to take proper care of their health. Because unless you are physically fit, you cannot work efficiently and properly. Health is the greatest blessing in this world. To keep yourself healthy, sleep and wake up on time, avoid junk food, eat healthy food and workout for at least 1 hour. If you adopt this kind of healthy lifestyle, you will feel much better.
