My Greenhouse - Plans for Next Spring - Parisienne Carrots

The last of my plants in my greenhouse died a few days ago. I'm already planning for next year! I can't help it! I'll go stir crazy in the cold and dark unless I dream of next Spring! I like exclamation marks! Whoohoo!

The Parisienne carrot is small and round. It takes about 50 days to come to maturity and grow only 6 to 10" tall. They should be planted 2 to 3 weeks before the last frost. These little guys grow well in heavy clay soils or even in pots because they don't require a lot of root room.

Carrot seeds are super tiny. It's best to mix them with a little dried coffee grounds or sand to help distribute them more evenly.

I plan on putting these in one of my half-barrel planters early in Spring and then do them again in the Fall. I've tried carrots, tiny Little Fingers and Cosmic Purples before when we had a regular, in-the-ground garden. I got a few tiny ones, but I sowed them too densely so I didn't get many. I'm going to sow more sparingly next year, as well as growing companion plants with them to help distribute nutrients better. I will probably pair them with cucumbers. They use different nutrients so one shouldn't deplete the other.

Thanks for checking out my dreams for next year! Have you grown carrots before? What was your experience? Do you have heavy, clay soil like we do and have never had luck with carrots? Maybe these Parisienne ones are for you!!

Until next time...stay tuned!
