We Are Raising Red Ranger Chickens & Cornish Cross Chickens To Compare The Differences. Between The @ Broiler Breeds.
We finally got some Red Ranger Chickens! This is something that we have been wanting to raise here on our family farm for some time now. We are very excited about the Red Ranger breed on the farm.
We have been very curious about the differences between the 2 chicken breeds of the Cornish Cross chicken vs the Red Ranger chicken, & if we can actually raise something other than a cornish cross for meat, & still be profitable doing so.
Now for those who do not know or never heard of a red ranger broiler chicken, a red ranger is a hybrid broiler chicken breed or a meat chicken breed, that grows faster & gets bigger than your typical chicken breed, like a dual purpose bird or an egg layer chicken, but grows slower than the cornish cross or cornish rock chicken breed. The red ranger chicken is also suppose to be a better free range chicken than the cornish cross as well. Which will be great to see if this is true, since we raise our broilers out in the open, on pasture, & grass & also out in the forest too....Plus the hatcheries & red ranger fans claim that the red ranger breed is suppose to be more flavorful and not as dry as your typical cornish cross, & is more of a darker meat too.
So we are going to do a few videos on the red ranger & we are going to create a series of videos comparing the side by side progression of the red ranger chickens versus the cornish cross chicken, & see how they vary in size, weight, feed intake, cost, flavor, texture, etc & also see if the red ranger chicken breed will be profitable for the farm as well...since they are a slower growing chicken compared to their counterpart, the cornish cross. So stay tuned for video updates on their progression. i knwo I am very curious myself, to see how it all turns out.
Thanks guys, & y'all have a great day!-Jason
