DIY Greenhouse irrigation – Part 3 ruining perfectly good pipe!

I've never been so excited to see a leaky pipe!

Well it's about time that I get this typed up as the DIY Greenhouse irrigation system is almost complete the only bit left to do is to wrap my head around the solar and electronics but this should be done within the next month its not quite a high priority and some minor work needs to be carried out before this takes place to keep the garden/greenhouse on schedule.

Whats has been done since Part 2

As you may have seen from the previous parts the irrigation system is built from the ridiculously cheap 21.5 solvent weld waste pipe and fittings, it does have a few downsides like lack of connector types and you have to get a little creative when trying to joining to types of pipe together.

One bit I had to improvise was end stops I wanted these to be removable and look tidy. this was accomplished with a quick 3d print and it came out great first time. dipping the pipe ends into hot water to soften the plastic and then tapping the ends home created a waterproof seal.

I'f any one wanted any of the .stl/.step files let me know and i can upload them and supply a link.

One other thing that I 3d printed for this was a jig for drilling the holes in the pipework. This allowed for precise spacing between the holes and the angles to be accurate throughout. It worked out about 20cm between holes and the 3 holes are about 30 degrees apart to give a decent coverage.

Drilling the holes had taken about 30mins or so but were by far the most tedious element to complete.

Holes drilled the pipes were refitted and glued were needed. These should be much less intrusive once the greenhouse is swamped with, well... green hahaha.

The above image was just a quick test using the watering can. It worked well enough and brought a smile to my face as we're nearing completion. Still a massive question around wether my pump will generate enough water pressure to make this whole prokect work however and its the only bit that makes me nervous. 🤔

Thanks for taking the time to read this post on my DIY greenhouse irrigation system. Please stick around and check out my many other blog posts that may interest you.
