The budget was very low, even for India at $5,000, but we chose a very simple design with the most basic metal sheet as a roof. These arn't very eco-friendly and are terrible insulators and barriers other than for rain, but this was my best option given the budget I had to work with. The Earthship Hut is 18 Ft long x 12 Feet wide and is one simple room with toilets and a washing area outside. The main expense was wood, which we needed for the roof frame, window frames and door frames. Old car tyres were sourced from Coimbatore which is a city 150 Km from Kodaikanal, and costed around $500 USD. Usually tyres are free, and in Europe and many parts of the world you get paid $1 per tyre that you can remove from landfill!
So I am very enthusiastic to let you know that I have just started a diary of this build. This first part is actually a short movie that I made rather than my normal discourse.. which is a nice change. Im learning how to video edit, so this is a great opportunity to learn.
