Welcome back to Part 2 of the Outdoor Kitchen Build! Part 1 is available if you missed it.
🏰 Kingposts 🏰
Kingposts are the smaller vertical posts that make up part of the trusses of the outdoor kitchen. There are a total of three kingposts in the outdoor kitchen.
I cut them from 6x6 timbers and notched them to have a long tenon on the bottom.
I then took each kingpost up and fit it into place to mark the final length.
I left 3 inches to stick beyond the 2x8s and chamfered the ends with my hand plane to give it more of a hand-worked look.
The tenons slide between the two horizontal 2x8s and bolt into place with four 1/2" x 7" galvanized hex bolts, washers and lock nuts.
For the time being, I left the tops of the kingposts untouched. I will cut them to match the angles of the rafters when they are put in place.
