Hey everyone! I’m back a bit early from Wild Rose Acres but I managed to have a great start to my weekend by accomplishing a few things before the onset of winter!
My parents and I arrived late at night, stepping from our truck into the silent dark broken only by a beam of light from the cabin. My cousin was already inside washing potatoes and grilling meat. After unpacking, we enjoyed a hot meal together and turned in early.
That morning I was awoken by hurried footsteps and excited voices. My cousin had shot a yearling doe and was getting ready to trail! I sprang from my bed eager to join the hunt.
We walked to the spot where his arrow had fallen, broken in half and wet with blood. We didn’t even have to look for specks of blood… there was a heavy trail leading to her body not 40 yards away. Luckily he had shot her straight through the heart and it was a quick death. Even though I would like to become a vegetarian at some point, I still appreciate a quick and painless death for those who continue to eat meat.
While the boys dragged the carcass back to the yard and began skinning, I went to work in the garden.
Littered with leaves, I decided to just do a quick pick up by removing some of the saplings that had sprouted. You can see the pile of bramble growing in the background as well as a junk pile from scraps I found.
Then I check on the two mulberries I planted - both are doing well in their little cages! No nibble marks!
Well I have a bunch more photos to post so I am going to split this post into two! Stay tuned to see the surprise I found not long after!
