Homesteaders & Preppers on steemit - smashing through the 250 mark - v10 [22 Nov '17]

So we've made it to the big 250 - and beyond!

The list of Homesteaders and Preppers on steemit now stands at 256.

That's an extra 26 added in the 44 days since the last list in October. The growth rate has slowed down a bit but is still quite healthy.

What is likely to be less healthy will be the retention rate - how many people are still active on steemit.

I did a quick analysis for the Wales list yesterday and found only around 20% are still active.

I am working on a similar analysis of the Homesteaders and Preppers list at the moment. Hopefully being part of an active community like the Homesteaders and Preppers grouping will have encouraged more people to have kept posting.

I will make a post with the result of that analysis.

Improving Retention

A few days ago I made a post exploring some ideas for improving the retention rate in the Homesteader and Prepper community on steemit.

From that a number of people from the Homesteader and Prepper community have come forward with ideas and offers of help.

Over the coming days and weeks we are hoping to put in place a few new initiatives to help support new members, as well as older ones, to encourage them to stick around on steemit and make the most of the amazing opportunities this platform can offer.

First up @goldendawne is going to be actively scouting amongst new players particularly to invite them to the Homesteaders Online Discord server.

There we will be able to offer them a friendly homebase if they want it and a ready source of help and advice to get them through the difficult first few weeks on steemit.

Beyond that we are looking for ways to build some sort of informal, but slightly more structured mentoring / buddy system.

Contests, seed swaps, voice chats and maybe even meet-ups might also be on the agenda.
