My Homesteading Bucket List!

I remember as a kid walking out the back door and going to the garden with grandma and picking peas and butterbeans and everything else that grandpa had planted in the garden. Walking over to the pear tree or apple tree and picking a fruit and going over to the washhouse to wash it off to eat it. Sitting on the front porch in the evening hulling butterbeans and snapping peas. Getting up in the morning and feeding chickens and gathering the eggs, milking the cow and making sure all the animals were fed and watered. Then coming inside to the smell of bacon or sausage frying and fresh biscuits wrapped in a towel on the counter. The memories of those days are still fresh in my mind even after 25 years. The old home place is now gone, grandpa passed away and grandma kept it as long as she could before getting cancer and had to sell to pay the doctors bills. Now grandma when to meet up with grandpa in the next life.

Pictures I took of an old farm in my area!

I decided that that is what I wanted to do as an adult and teach my kids and grandkids how to grow their own food and raise their own meat. The pride of being able to say that this is something that we grew and we knew where it came from.
We are working on it now as we have bought almost 12 acres and we are starting to prepare to be what we want.

We are planning on building Air Crete Domes for our houses. We are working on doing the research and getting the tools to do this now. It will not be a fast process but it will happen. It is a learning curve as I have worked building stick framed houses and this is thinking outside the box. We wanted to be different from everything else out there at least in the style home we built.

We want to have some chickens and be able to have fresh eggs and also some meat birds for our family. We will want to get some goats for goat milk cheese as our grandchildren love it with crackers or just by itself. We want to get a cow for some fresh milk to make some butter and cheese from it also, there is nothing better than a glass of fresh cold milk with some homemade choclate chip cookies.

We have enough land to have a nice garden and we want to have some apple, peach and pear trees. We might even try an orange tree and a banana tree to see if they will grow where we are in Middle Ga.

We will have some grape vines, blackberry and blueberry bushes, work on getting strawberries and as many other berries and fruits we can.

That is our bucket list for our homestead. It has already started and we are trying to move forward as we learn and have the funds to do so. One of our big goals was to do this debt free as possible, we had to do owner financing on the land but we want to build everything else debt free. It will be slow as I am a disabled veteran and have a few problems that slow me down but it will get done.
