Heliotrope is my favourite garden plant

I had this plant back in 2016, on my front porch, and it was so incredible. I bought it during the opening weekend of our farmer's market, from a friend who had a plant booth there. I didn't have a proper place to put it in the garden, and that ended up working in my favor, because I could sit on a bench on the front porch, soaking up the sun, and inhaling this magical fragrance. I like it better than roses, or any other flower!

So what is Heliotrope?

It's magic, I tell you! The scent is INTOXICATING - to me, it's very perfume-like with vanilla undertones. Some folks says it's reminiscent of cherry pie, while others compare it to grape popsicle (whaaa?!). It's an annual (although it can be a "temperate perennial" under the right conditions) that likes full sun, works well in containers, and blooms through the summer and into the fall. If you have children or animals that are prone to nosh your greenery, keep them away from Heliotrope, as all parts are poisonous.

One of these days, I'm going to have a whole bunch of these right near the front of whatever house I end up at. During the summer, I'll have the windows open and will have this incredible aroma swirl everywhere, outside and in!
