Pacu Kude, Traditional Horse Race in Gayo Land

Pacu Kude or horse race is a traditional game typical of Gayo Land, a designation for the area located in the Central Cross Aceh. In some historical records, Pace Kude first started from the Bintang in the east of Lake Lut Tawar, Central Aceh District.

Pacu Kude atau pacuan kuda adalah permainan tradisional khas dari Tanah Gayo, sebutan untuk daerah yang berada di Lintas Tengah Aceh. Dalam beberapa catatan sejarah, Pacu Kude pertama kali dimulai dari Bintang yang ada di wilayah timur Danau Lut Tawar, Kabupaten Aceh Tengah.

From Pacu Kude book written by Piet Rusydi from Hall Preservation History and Traditional Value of Aceh 2011, Pacu Kude was originally held around 1850 with the racetrack across Wekef up to Menye with mileage about 1.5 kilometers. This folk game is usually held after the rice harvest season is over.

Dari buku Pacu Kude yang ditulis oleh Piet Rusydi dari Balai Pelestarian Sejarah dan Nilai Tradisional Aceh Tahun 2011, Pacu Kude awalnya digelar sekitar tahun 1850 dengan arena pacuan melintasi Wekef sampai dengan Menye dengan jarak tempuh sekitar 1,5 kilometer. Permainan rakyat ini biasanya digelar setelah musim panen padi selesai.

Now, Pacu Kude is not only implemented in Central Aceh District but also held in Bener Meriah and Gayo Lues, after the expansion of these three regions. Pacu Kude can be implemented more than once a year as it commemorates the anniversary (HUT) District and HUT RI. In March 2018, I had the opportunity to visit Central Aceh District and how lucky I am because there is a show Pace Kude and jockey are children. From several classes of games that opened, the event was held in order to commemorate the 441th Anniversary (HUT) of City Takengon 441 provides a prize of Rp 300 million.

Sekarang, Pacu Kude tidak hanya dilaksanakan di Kabupaten Aceh Tengah saja tetapi juga digelar di Kabupaten Bener Meriah dan Kabupaten Gayo Lues, pasca pemekaran ketiga wilayah ini. Pacu Kude bisa dilaksanakan lebih dari satu kali dalam setahun seperti saat memperingati Hari Ulang Tahun (HUT) Kabupaten dan HUT RI. Pada awal Maret 2018 lalu, saya berksempatan berkunjung ke Kabupaten Aceh Tengah dan betapa beruntungnya saya karena disana sedang ada pagelaran Pacu Kude dan jokinya adalah anak-anak. Dari beberapa kelas pertandingan yang dibuka, acara yang digelar dalam rangka memperingati Hari Ulang Tahun (HUT) Kota Takengon Ke 441 ini menyediakan hadiah sebesar Rp 300 juta.
