Internet connection have always been a luxury in Nigeria and even though we have different Internet providers whose competition have reduced the cost of data in the past few years, we still have a long way to go before we get high speed and affordable internet
The current Internet service of Most network providers is currently built around the popular phrase
You can't eat your cake and have it.
We currently have four major telecommunication companies in Nigeria, MTN, Globacom, Airtel and 9 Mobile (fomerly Etisalat). And they all have seemingly "high value" Internet subscription packs for their customers
I have noticed though that companies like Globacom that offes more data at a cheaper price has very slow internet speed and you end up burning more data than neccessary, while those like 9mobile that provides faster internet speeds have a expensive data plans
I have not been bearing the brunt of data subscription though because my school University of Nigeria (UNN) have an internet service project for students and all we have to do is pay #8000 (roughly $20) yearly and you will have an unlimited access to Wifi connection
This is not the case though in the outside world an average Nigerian spends #3000 ( roughly $8) monthly and will still not be able to stream videos, and the "unlimited" data plans don't last up to a month before it gets exhausted if you are active online
The Kenyan Phenomenom
In a recent internet speed survey, the average internet speed of Kenya an East African country surpassed that of the America, the average Internet speed of Kenya stood at 13.7 megabits per second in comparism to the US 10.7 megabits per second
Kenya has the 14th most fastest internet connection speed in the world according to a survey done by Akamai that pooled in data from more than 130 countries
Kenya ranks above its Sub-Sahara peers when it comes to internet connection speeds and this as a result of the " National Broadband Strategy " that the country launced in 2013 that saw the extension of fiber optic cables across the country. Close to 88% of Kenya's population now have access to mobile Internet that was facilitated by cheaper data plans and mobile money platforms like Mpesa

This also encouraged the publishing of more local content online and the Installation of ICT centers across all National Universities, according to the Communications Authority of Kenya the country now has as much as 30% Broadband penetration in the First Quater of 2017 that is very likely to have increased by now
I personally believe that Broadband problems will be a thing of the past in Africa, If all goverments rise up to solve the issues and put structures in place to help fast track internet connection
We all feel the pangs and during periods that i used Mobile data for Steemit, i was shocked at the Speed it got exhausted. So we @bluewaves are trying to bring a Solution to that with help from some community members who has access to telecommunication companies
This is also neccessary if we want to see a mass adoption of Steemit in Africa
