Dear Steemians,
This to introduce my hometown Luxembourg City, which is the capital of, what else would you expect, Luxembourg 🇱🇺
Luxembourg, the country, is a landlocked country in western Europe, with borders to Germany, France and Belgium. Luxembourg is a tiny country with a total of 998.6 square miles (2586,4 km2 ) with some 580,000 inhabitants. Our currency is the Euro (€).
Most Luxembourgers speak Luxembourgish, German, French and English. We have as well a huge Portuguese community, so that you often hear Portuguese speaking as well.
Due to the small size of the country, a lot of workers and employees are cross-border-workers. As in the catering- and in the selling branch a huge number of them come from France and Belgium, it can be useful to speak some bribes of French to order your coffee on a shady terrace.
Coat of arms of Luxembourg:
First thing you'll be aware a bit everywhere in Luxembourg are the witnesses of the past, for Luxembourg was a very strong fortress, that time also called Gibraltar of the north. The fortifications were only dismantled in 1867, but the remains can be seen everywhere. Click -> Wikipedia: Fortress of Luxembourg
Imagine the poor guys who had to attack through this bottleneck, being basted from two sides with all kind of projectiles as well as pitch and sulfur:
Nowadays, Luxembourg is a peaceful and calm little city with mostly friendly people.
One of the main tourist attractions is the Grand-Ducal Palace, with the build-on Chamber of Deputies. Napoleon once resided here.
And this place is called "Rives de Clausen" and it represents the remains of a former leading brewery in Luxembourg (yes we do also brew beer in Luxembourg). Nowadays, also if it doesn't look like on my photos, it is one of the favorite Party-miles in Luxembourg. Unfortunately I have no nightlife pics of it, but you only need to google the three words and look at the images. It seems not to be the same place at night.
Hope you enjoyed my little guided tour through Luxembourg. This post was primarily about the historic side of Luxembourg City, next time, I'll take you uptown.
