Hello Steemians!
I would like to introduce to you my home town - Ljubljana. It's a capital city of a small country Slovenia (not to be mistaken with Slovakia (!!)), located in the central Europe. Just last year we were celebrating 2000 years anniversary when the first Romans decided to turn this place into a city called Emona. Over the centuries the city grew larger and larger to become the Ljubljana we know it today.
Today Ljubljana is a hidden gem that surprise everyone who visit it and the less you expect from it the more you are surprised. It lies on the banks of the river Ljubljanica,
below the city castle from the 12th century,
full of green trees and over watched by the mighty dragon.
But the most amazing part is that it's so small and compact that you can discover it on foot. Most of the city center is closed for traffic, the only exception is the main street that is proclaimed as a free zone for public transports, cyclists and pedestrians - the only rule is don't get run over by a city bus (we call it trola! :) A road packed with cars not more than 2 years ago now looks like this
While exploring and sightseeing Ljubljana you can take a short break like i did and grab a beer or some flavored lemonade at my favorite bank called Petkovškovo nabrežje.
It's full of bars that have a good assortment of beers (locale and foreign) and if you don't like the beer you can drink a Mango lemonade like i did today! It's really delicious.
And if you think that Paris is a city of love?! It's not ... it's Ljubljana. Why? For many reasons.
It is a capital city of sLOVEnia which contains a word LOVE in it ... Still not enough?
The translation of the name Ljubljana would be beLOVEd ... You see ...
And if that is not enough for you ... we have a bridge dedicated to lovers where everyone can lock their LOVE forever (not like some cities that removes the locks :) )
Still not convinced?! Well ... even frogs can find love in Ljubljana
So ... enough about love lets get back to Ljubljana :) If you are afraid, that you'll overheat yourself in Ljubljana ... have no fear, we have our own weather... Sounds froggy i know but it's true
I wonder what France Prešeren would say about the constant rain in front of him. After all he is the greatest Slovenian poet who lived from 1800-1849. Even our national anthem is taken from his poem Zdravljica. If you plan to stay for a bit more and would like to see Ljubljana from another perspective, than you can take a boat ride which costs 8€ per person or 3€ for children.
Or explore our national library called NUK. It's one of the greatest architectural monuments in Slovenia. Designed by the most respectful and known Slovenian architect Jože Plečnik
He is responsible for many architectural creations in Ljubljana like the Triple bridge (picture1), the arcades above Ljubljanica (picture 2) and for those who have already visited Prague. He's work can be seen on many of the Prague main buildings like the Castle (source)
Now that you are not thirsty any more, well educated and tired of sightseeing, it's time to have some food. There are numerous good restaurants on the banks of Ljubljanica where you can get anything from steak and burgers to fish, pizza and traditional Slovenian cuisine.
And if you are still not impressed with Ljubljana ... (i don't know how you wouldn't be) than you can visit the gallery which is empty
or listen to a deer playing on instruments Mr. Deer Band
If you are still here, reading my long post than i believe I've convinced you to add Ljubljana to your need to see list.
