Sarabanda & Double - BWV 1002 - J.S. Bach - Classical Guitar - My introduction on Steemit

Hello, this is my introduction post as @classical-guitar on Steemit.com. I’m an enthusiastic amateur classical guitar player who likes to remain anonymous. I’ve been playing for many years and it’s my pleasure to start sharing the music that I love here on Steemit.

I’m planning to record and post a piece at least once a week. The first two pieces I like to share are the Sarabande & Double from the violin partita no. 1 from J. S. Bach. Bach is probably my favourite composer for the guitar although he never wrote for the instrument. There are four lute suites and some other works that Bach supposedly wrote for the lute but it’s more likely that he wrote them for the the lute-harpsichord. Still there is a vast amount of work that can be adapted to the guitar. Especially the suites and partitas for solo violin and cello work really well on the guitar but also some pieces written for harpsichord lend themselves to be transcribed for the guitar.

The Sarabande & Double are usually performed as a pair. The chords and chord sequence are 100% identical for both pieces and it’s interesting to hear how different the two pieces sound considering. The Double I’ve only been playing for a couple of weeks and needs a bit of polishing.

I only have one guitar, my good old Esteve Granados 1GR12 from 1993. I’m very happy with it and it has a nice full and rich sound. The body is made out of mahogany and the top is cedar. The strings that I use are Pro-Arte from D’Addario.

Other pieces of music that I’ll share in the near future are:

Berceuse - Leo Brouwer
Choro no. 1 - Heitor Villa-Lobos
Prelude no. 9 WTC book 1 - J. S. Bach
Sonate in e minor L. 352 - D. Scarlatti
Passacaille in D major - S. L. Weiss
Suite Venezolano - Antonio Lauro
and much more

The next piece will be a gigue in D major from Sylvius Leopold Weiss. A piece I haven’t seen performed on the guitar yet.
