Hi dear steemians!! My first post!

I am Coinbitgold from Singapore. I carry many identities. I am a VERY new blogger-soon-to-be-ex-PhD student-housewife-mother of a 3 year old beautiful little girl.
Below is ME.

My interests

I am a Chemical/Materials engineer by training, but have in fact been working in environmental & sustainability related fields. I am a PhD student working in disruptive technologies. I have a passion in topics on disruptive technologies like bitcoin, 3dprinting, fintech, etc and have been researching and writing about them.
I also have interests in languages and translation which basically come from my travels and the cities I have lived in. Growing up in Singapore, I am effectively bilingual - fluent in both English and Chinese Mandarin. I can also speak standard German like a 3 year old (Ich spreche deustch, so wie eine 3 jahren alt kind). Also some Bahasa Melayu since Malaysia is our closet neighbour.

The past

I lived in Linz, an industrial city in Austria for 2 years. The country where I picked up a little basic German and Austrian dialects. That part of my life was also a lot of self-discovery and travelling in Europe. There are also a few things that I never understood.

  • Why road trams (strassenbahn) transportation system has no gates?
  • Why some Austrians do not like the Germans?
  • Why the country name Austria sounds like it has nothing to do with Oesterreich (literal translation= Eastern empire)?

The present

Currently, my family and I live in Shanghai, China. Shanghai is in China. Singapore is not in China. Singapore is in South-east Asia and China is in in North-east Asia. And no, they are not the same.
For the time being, Shanghai is an exciting city but I am still bewildered sometimes. For example:

  • Cars do not follow rules and seem to be coming and going in all directions. If every driver can just follow rules and not try to overtake each other, everyone can be more efficient and safer.
  • Why they never say “excuse me” (不好意思) or (对不起)when approaching strangers for help. I mean come on, you are asking me for help.
  • Why even the most innocent websites are censored in China… Not having an open internet slows down the internet speed for everyone.
    And more as I discover…

Future

The fact is I might be going to be a PhD dropout very real and very soon. I don’t think I have failed because I guess it just means that my life circumstances have thrown me off balance and dropping out of the PhD program for the time being might be the best option at this stage of my life. At least, I preserve till the very end and this point seems to be the right time to just drop it. Maybe, i will take it again in the future. I don't know but i guess that's life. And i also get why PhD students sometimes want to "kill" their Professors...

My blog

I am a very new blogger at http://www.coinbitgold.com. The transition is not easy - going from writing journal papers to blog posts. It will take a lot of hard work writing good content, editing and sometimes just deleting totally bad content altogether. Will i be a successful blogger? Stay tuned.
