A Steemit-driven entity based in Hong Kong aiming to bring out talents and synergy amid cross-community collaborations without geographical borders

Introduction

Oriental Hub is a new Steemit-driven entity based in Hong Kong aiming to bring out talents and synergy amid cross-community collaborations, promote community harmony, and connect people together without geographical borders. This is an introductory post giving you a first-person view of what the entity aspires to achieve.

What’s behind the name?

When you think of the term oriental, probably the Far East Asia immediately comes to mind. It is a traditional term coined to signify anything from or associated with the Far East. The orient was propelled by fascinating tales of European explorers, Marco Polo and Jorge Álvares, just to name a notable few, and sparked by business trade between Europe and the Far East (Bideleux & Jeffries, 2007; Wood, 2009).

Being aware that the term has been avoided in the US since 2016 (PBS, 2016), we however have an opposite view and find the term to be neutral and non-aggressive in Asia where shops and a world-renowned hotel chain from Hong Kong have been comfortably using it as trade names. We feel that the term is representative of Asian characteristics being courteous to people from around the world, supportive to people in need of help, responsive to worldwide opportunities, and connected with people as a central hub. All these essential characteristics come together and give the birth to this Hong-Kong-based Steemit-driven initiative ‘Oriental Hub’.

The logo of Oriental Hub denotes those essential Asian characteristics. An oriental boat sail in five oceans to seven continents in hopes of bringing out talents and synergy amid cross-community collaborations, promoting community harmony, and connect people together without geographical borders.

The logo

One can visualize what shapes Oriental Hub in the logo. A Hong Kong skyline in the background denotes that Oriental Hub is based in Hong Kong and the oriental boat in the foreground symbolizes that the group is ready to go anywhere and enthusiastic about cross-community collaborations with an aim to discover talents, create synergy, endorse community harmony, and connect people together without geographical borders.

Oriental Hub
