Hi Steemians, today I am introducing a new group for artists of all stripes: The New Alchemists!
The New Alchemists are a cross-disciplinary performance company I started with some wonderful friends (our founders are writers, musicians, theater-makers, and much more). Our mission is to bring diverse stories that need to be told to life – with courage, compassion, humanity, and heart. Here’s an article I wrote about one of our projects.
This is Lily, the Artistic Director of The New Alchemists, and in my 10th week on steemit! It's been pretty lonely out here as a theatre artist on steemit. I haven’t found a lot of performing artists (besides musicians) to befriend! Rock on, visual artists of steemit, you all are amazing! I’ve yet to find a community of artists that is truly cross-sector: a vibrant mix of performance (dance, music, theatre, and beyond!), film, and visual mediums...
So I’m jumpstarting a place for collaborative, cross-sector mingling (and hopefully an incubator for more performing artists on this platform!)

My intention is to run this as the "steemit branch" of The New Alchemists.
When I started The New Alchemists with 3 friends (who will slowly but surely roll onto steemit over the next few months), we wanted to create an artist collective that would allow us to work on creative projects -- anywhere in the world -- where our talents or abilities might be useful and inspire action and/or change. We have always been invested in working alongside communities, and steemit is a platform that allows us to do just that -- while networking with people around the globe!
On that note, I am looking for key collaborators who might be interested in being a part of the platform. The lovely @ameliabartlett has been in on the secret for some time, along with @soyrosa, and I'm chatting with a few others. Are you an artist or creative who wants to know more? Find me on Discord!
My mission today is to get our Discord community growing and share my plans with all of you (all about community buy-in from the ground-up). I’m in the process of figuring out exactly how to use The New Alchemists on steemit! My initial thoughts are:
The steemit account @thenewalchemists will be used to curate a high standard of creative work that helps viewers have more understanding and empathy for the world in which we live. While we are targeting artists, we are also interested in community initiatives that are advancing creativity and social justice on the grassroots scale, i.e. art in action!
Since things are starting out, I'm particularly invested in receiving feedback on what is needed most by artists on the platform. Please leave your thoughts in the comments, or over in Discord chat.
