My introduction ~ World Ocean adventures

Hi Steemit community!

My name is Tom. I am excited and pumped to join this community that not only shares photos but unique travel stories from around the world. I am an expedition guide, marine biologist & amateur photographer, whom has worked and travelled around the world educating & helping people to safely interact with marine mammals. I tend to focus on Cetaceans (Whales) interactions – especially, Orca/Killer Whales & Humpback whales.

I basically spend my days either on the ocean, near it or under it. I'm originally from Australia but have been calling Canada home for the past 7 years. However, I do spend some of the year working and traveling to Antarctica & Australian in between gigs on Vancouver Island! I hope you enjoy my photos as well as the stories of the encounters linked to these photos.

A photo of me leading a group of people to interact with Orca for the first time - taken by my good friend, Gordon. You can see the large male orca's fin in the background ~ to give you some perspective. that fin is roughly 6ft | 1.8m in height.

Small Type B ~ Gerlache Killer Whales in Antarctica that we encountered in the Gerlache strait that I took a few weeks ago. Its a tad hard to upload photos whilst down in Antarctica for obvious reasons.

Humpback breaching in rough conditions in the Juan De Fuca Strait.

A male Humpback displaying a territorial chin slap south of Vancouver Island - the sound this behaviour creates is astounding!

Two Bigg's (mammal eating) orca doing a double spy hop! Honestly, just simply lucky to have the camera pointing at the right place at the right time to capture this unique display of affection between two apex predators!

J27 aka Blackberry from the Southern Resident Killer Whale population chasing a salmon at the surface!

Gentoo Penguins resting on the beach in Whalers Bay on Deception Island.
