Today we where in our sweet home when heard a drumrull sound raising from the street.
My wife @silviabeneforti and I went to the door and looked outside: it was it! The Hogwarts Parade was walking along the street! We saw immediatlely the guises of Gryffindor and Slytherin in the parade...
Ok, it was not the Hogwarts Parade. ;) It was the historical procession for Saint James, patron of our city (Pistoia). There are 4 districts in the old town: Golden Lion, Gryffin, White Deer and Dragon. In the photos above the guises are the Golden Lion's ones, our distric.
The celebration on July 25 that we have every year is not anyway the ancient one: the ancient tradition was stopped centuries ago. What we have today is a new celebration created just 60 years ago. The show is suggestive anyway ;)
The medieval suits are amazing. And seeing them people in an ancient town with modern cars and smartphones is a funny contrast :)
Before the Parade, a few days ago, we went in the central square of the city to see the horses receiving the blessing from the Bishop of the city. Well, we went mostly for the horses ;)
Why are there horses in this celebration? Because the top of it is a race, called Bear Carousel (Giostra dell'Orso). But there was not today for the rain.
The little Haflinger was the most nice and docile :)
Perhaps the Carousel will happen in the next days.

Oggi, mentre stavamo tranquilli in casa, abbiamo sentito un suono di tamburi che cresceva dalla strada. Siamo andati a vedere e, ecco!, si stava svolgendo la tradizionale sfilata delle Case di Hogwarts! Abbiamo riconosciuto subito le insegne del Grifondoro e di Serpeverde...
Ok, non era la sfilata di Hogwarts ;) Era il corteo storico dei festeggiamenti per San Jacopo, patrono di Pistoia, che tornava dal centro della città. In città ci sono 4 rioni: Leon d'Oro, Grifone, Cervo Bianco e Drago. Le insegne che ricordano le case dei romanzi di Harry Potter sono quelle del Leone, il nostro rione.
I festeggiamenti per il 25 luglio che si svolgono ogni anno non sono però quelli antichi: la tradizione si era interrotta secoli fa. La forma che hanno oggi questi festeggiamenti è stata inventata nel dopoguerra. Lo spettacolo è comunque suggestivo.
Gli abiti medioevali sono affascinanti. E vedere quei figuranti che attraversano una città antica ma piena di automobili, smartphone e cose di oggi crea un contrasto divertente. :)
Prima del corteo, alcuni giorni fa, si era tenuto il rito della Benedizione dei cavalli da parte del Vescovo, davanti alla Basilica del Duomo, e noi siamo andati a vederlo. Ok, più che altro a vedere i cavalli ;)
Che c'entrano i cavalli? C'entrano perché il culmine dei festeggiamenti è una gara a cavallo tra i rioni, la Giostra dell'Orso. Oggi la giostra non si è tenuta causa pioggia, ma probabilmente si terrà nei prossimi giorni.
