Food Fridays #17: Beers & Burgers At County Clare Irish Pub In Tach...

I often go out at night to do work and I'm always looking for new watering holes and eateries. Recently I hopped the train over to Tachikawa, which is a few stops away from Hachioji. I was actually planning on going to a craft beer bar, but when I got there it was closed for a private party. That caught me off guard and so I had to go to plan B, walk around.

Tachikawa is actually a cool city that has really modernized and grown over the years. It sits right next to Yokota Air Base which houses over 20,000 US military personnel as well as Japanese service people. I know this because I have done business there in a past life.

Anyway, Tachikawa is actually a cool city with lots to do. So I opened up google maps and googled "craft beer". The map showed an Irish pub about 3 minutes away so I headed over. You can never go wrong with an Irish or English pub in Japan. They always have comfort beer and comfort food. County Clare was no exception.

It was fairly easy to find. There were signs on the street and even the stairs told you where to go.

They even had free wifi, but when I'm out I never use public wifi. Always have my phone with my hotspot. Never use public wifi if you are doing anything crypto related or you have wallets on your laptop.

The interior was nicely done with lots of decor. I have heard that some Irish bars were actually taken apart and shipped to Japan to furnish new establishments. I should have asked this bar if that was the case.

As soon as I was seated I ordered a beer! It was a wheat pale ale, Fuyu No Kimagure which translates to Winter Capricious. It was ok, a bit light and unforgettable. Maybe a good beer to drink when you don't want something strong.

Next up was dinner! I was pleasantly surprised when I saw on the menu they had avocado cheese burgers! No fucking fish and chips thanks. I needed some good ole red meat to go along with my beer. Speaking of which, I had just finished my first one so it was time for another.

I decided on the Punk IPA from Brew Dog out of Scotland. I'd never had an IPA from Scotland so I figured it was about damn time. It was pleasant, I think. Can't remember...

Then the burger arrived! It was really delicious. 100% ground beef with avocado cubes pouring out the side. I say 100% because many chains in Japan mix their beef with pork and it just doesn't taste like a hamburger. The fries were actually quite good as well with some pepper and other spices sprinkled on them.

As I was finishing up a Japanese politician sat down and started chatting with me. He was a political advisor for the JSDF and was actually a pretty cool guy. I talked to him about crypto & Steemit and showed him CMC. Notice the price of Bitcoin that day!

Oh ya, during this time I ordered a Kilkenny. As we talked I tried to explain to him the complexities of bitcoin, using crypto and the future of money. He kinda got it but didn't quite buy it as he is from a different generation. I think he might get it now though seeing as how crypto has exploded all over Japan.

While he and I were chatting two Americans from the base joined us. Neither were service men, but worked on the base. I also talked to them about crypto and introduced them to Steemit. I don't think they signed up though as I gave them my Steemit business card, but never heard from them.

They were looking to party all night and decided to start the night off with a drink I can only dream of nowadays.

It was a house special. A full can of red bull and some hard alcohol. The guy who ordered it got cheers from other patrons as he drank it. I told them to get out of here, head down to Shibuya and maybe stop by Womb. I have a feeling they wound up in a gutter on Center Gai before the night was over.

The beer started passing through me so I headed to the restroom. There was a whole backroom to the bar that was empty. If you didn't know it you would probably think you were in Ireland!

I ordered 1 more round, a Kurofune Porter by Baird Beer. They are a craft brewer in Japan. They usually produce nice beers too so if you ever get a chance give them a try. To this day I can't remember if I liked this beer or not. It was about the 6th of the night so maybe you can forgive me. I guess I'll have to go back, try it again and report back!
