This week’s challenge is to write a rap about Mental Illness. You don’t not have to sing the rap, record, or put music to the verses. The point is to kill the pad by writing.

I was hesitant to take on this challenge because the phrase mental illness is a broad term. Mental illness can include brain traumas, or birth defects, or abnormalities, and the mental disabilities of those who have encountered tragic experiences. I chose to write about the mental illnesses that are caused by or is a result of interacting with others who are mean to put it lightly. I can be mean too, so this is also a reminder for me to be more sensitive to the feelings of others.

Coping mechanisms of the mentally unstable; they give up winning; always thinking that they’re unable.

Beaten down and broken every day to the point of falling; crawling, bawling, always stalling;

deaf to hear when life is calling.

Told they can’t continue, and they’re believing that it’s true, and always dealing with the rude;

folks who give them attitude.

Angry, fearful, fake, ungrateful; their minds can’t deal; and become unstable.

All the violence, neglect and silence, months and years with hopeless tyrants.

Given nothing but oppression; soon it turns to deep depression; to obsession of life lessons;

ending time; never reaching Heaven.

Think you’re bipolar- no they’re assholes. Kick them out and protect your castle.

Let them leave you were they found you, don’t let their harmful vibes astound you.

The mental state of peeps today is drowning in negativity;

Bound by those who feel the need, to impose their view of reality.

What we need to do is feed on hope, love and positivity.

Turn our backs on those filled with greed and shell out some form of sympathy.

Quit looking out to reach the stars and give props to ones who are where we are.

The world is cold enough; it’s up to us; cause those who rise will take the fall;

Maybe a little bit of kindness could cure it all….
