Greedy Greed - Part 2: Seven Deadly Sins Series

"ALL MINE," says the greedy.

The greedy is chomping, eating, swallowing everything whole. A horrific sight. Deadly. Scary. The greedy is running after me. I run as fast as I could until I get tired. I can't breathe! Until I wake up from a bad dream.

Okay, I just made it up. Chill, friends. I'm just actually making it interesting as I am talking about a very controversial caprice of a person. You know, since all of us hate the greedy and despise the greedy. However, are we not greedy in our own way? Let's ask ourselves that. We need money, we need power, we need material things to survive in this world. Are we not giving in to greed in the process?

GREED

Greed is a profound, extreme and excessive (all in superlative!) thirst for power, wealth, food or anything a person desires. Greed is insatiable. Greed is bottomless - simply because it wants everything. The negative behavior has a very big impact to our society. A greedy person will go a long way to get whatever they want. They person, driven by the desire, will destroy everything that will come his way. If all people are rapacious, then the world will be in total wreck. Deadly. Really deadly.

While writing this article, my husband came home with a news about the person who owns the piece of lot beside the property we bought. Now, this woman doesn't want to remove all her drainage pipes encroaching our part of the land despite how many negotiations we have had. Now, my husband told me that she insisted she'll keep all the pipes there and wanted the property to be resurveyed instead. The thing is, we had the lot title and everything. She'll lose. Definitely lose. However, my husband gave her the chance and even offered to do the job for her. She still refused. She has the tenacity to claim the part of the land which is obviously not hers for her convenience. Greed, my friend, greed! So, I just told my husband that we are going to proceed with our plans. If she still resists, then we'll take it to the proper authorities.

Now, with the negative impact of this kind of behavior to everyone and everything, we need to check ourselves if we are being greedy in our own ways. In a given situation, if you're in doubt, you might ask these questions and assess:

1. Am I being selfish?

A greedy person loves to think about himself/herself first in everything. Okay, while it is true that we need to take care of ourselves first before other people, there are all limitations to this. Your own world must not destroy other worlds. You are not alone in the universe. Everything is interrelated and acknowledging this fact will help you understand more about life.

2. Am I asking for too much?

A person who seemed to have not enough will ask for more and more or worse, everything! They will go for miles and miles and will never be satisfied even if it's at other's expense. I mean, it's okay to go for whatever you want for as long as you know when to stop and say enough is enough. The thing is, we can never have everything and that is a fact.

3. Am I too conceited?

If you think you deserve more than what you're getting sans the effort, then there's something wrong with you. If you grab someone else's glory to fill you own (example, credit-grabbing), then you are greedy. People who love to be praised and adored at all times will sometimes do whatever it takes to keep themselves in the pedestal even if it means getting the glory from others.

4. Am I insensitive?

Greedy people will disregard other people's welfare or feeling just to push their own agenda. They don't have the grasp of the real emotion of other people. They don't have empathy and will never accept accountability in everything they do. They just think that they are entitled to everything.

The world nowadays are full of desirous individuals. We are all human and every day, we contribute to this dilemma. We have this greed inside all of us and we are eyeing for lots of things: money, food, power and all the stuff in between. Now, we have wars because of lust for power and wealth, there's famine while some part of the world are getting much more than what they need and there's too much commercialization of all the things that later on will just be put into waste. Greed is everywhere and that's why we have to be more aware about our own life. We dream, we want to achieve something in life. But how far can we go? How much do we need? Do we want it all?
