Rosie the Riveter is a powerful symbol of the feminist movement. She represents a woman that is strong, hard working, independent, and yet still very feminine and beautiful.
For anyone who saw my 13 Halloween Costumes you can Throw Together Tonight post, you know that I was having a serious case of FOMO the night before Halloween. Because I didn't have any great costume ideas, I had just decided not to do anything. Then I got to thinking about the fun Halloween party my employer throws at work every year and that a group of friends would likely go out that night - all in costume. I decided I should make some kind of effort and decided to pull together a Rosie the Riveter costume.
Even though it was an incredibly easy costume to assemble - it was actually one of my favorites that I've worn in the past few years. It's hard not to feel a little extra powerful when wearing this outfit!
My office closed down for almost two hours while we had a big Halloween party and costume contest. There are about 85 people in our office and quite a few of them participate by dressing up. We started with an awesome baked potato bar potluck and lots of homemade deserts.
Our Customer Care Team dressed up as "Customer Care Bears" and they decorated their entire cubicle area with brightly colored streamers, rainbows and balloons.
We even had a Big Foot sighting! Don't worry, we had a Big Foot hunter to keep him in check. They look like old pals though if you ask me!
Here's a few shots of me with some of my favorite work friends!
Let's face it though... the cutest costume award goes to the office dog Green Bean. He and his dad, the Sheriff, were patrolling the halls today. Yes, that is a saddle on his back! His owner found a crazy western purse with a small saddle built into it at a thrift store and converted it to a Halloween costume for his little pup!
