FACT VIOLENCE/팩트폭행: HanSpot’s Newest Episode

Hello Steemians! We were off a few weeks due to some pressing events so we wanted to bring you an extra fun one today.

How Koreans Fight with FACTS

We live in an interesting time. We've had a few decades to digest the internet and now we've come to a bit of a conflict in modern society – human experience vs. big data. Our problems are becoming more and more global and are motivating a bigger scope of how the world works beyond our own personal experiences.

This causes an immediate friction within most of us. How can global warming occur if the winters are so harsh? Why is eating beef such a bad thing when hamburgers are delicious?

More socially, this situation generates a conflict between older and younger generations. Young people are overall more motivated by the information and content they receive while older, more “conservative” demographics are driven more by personal experiences.

Remember my first episode on Kkondaes? It's the same precise conflict of being told certain things when we can verify their falsity.

So how have Koreans dealt with this situation. With FACT VIOLENCE of course!

Speaking Truth to Power

팩트폭행 breaks down like this, "팩트" is the direct transliteration of the english word FACT and "폭행" means VIOLENCE.

- Facts are dangerous things

The use straightforward. When confronted with rumors or falsehoods, whip out some FACTS and enact sweet swift justice.

Practical Applications Today

The most tremendous thing to have happened in recent times on Korean soil is the impeachment of President Geun-hye park. Following her removal due to deep ties of corruption, there have been a long series of ongoing public interrogations of affiliated government officers, corporate heads, corroborators, and everyone else involved in her affair of extorting millions of public and private funds.

- We took down an entire administration with informational violence.

In every day usage, young people are referring to facts more and more to fight a more conservative mentality that experience and "gut" counts as something to live by. This has enormous ramifications on social relationships, career choices, and how Koreans choose to live their daily lives. Children have long lived under a cultural hierarchy where older opinions had to be followed even when it led to dangerous results. Now we have a tool to fight them with.
