A Jeezzle Movie Review: Fists of the White Lotus

If you like Kung Fu movies even a little bit you will love Fists of the White Lotus.

If there is one sort of movie that I'm always in the mood to watch no matter what it is a Kung Fu movie.

Now normally I'm a purist when it comes to watching foreign movies, especially Asian movies, however when it comes to Kung Fu movies I really love a good terrible dub.

You never know when you're going to get a voice that is really out of place for the character.

I remember one time about 20 years ago watching a movie whose name I do not remember in which the tiny Asian male was voiced by a gruff sounding deep voiced black man.

Fists of the White Lotus has a great dub, but that's mostly because it's easy to understand. There are no funny standout characters like the deep voiced tiny Asian man.

There is, however, a great storyline and tons of action.

Also......... an inordinate number of punches to the nether regions.

The good guys don't fight fair in this one.

Who's in it?

Well it's typical Shaw Brothers fare.

We could go over the entire cast but I'll just focus on a couple of characters.

Chia-Hui Liu is awesome as the hero character.

Not only did he work on both Kill Bill movies but he also starred in the series of movies called The 36 Chambers of Shaolin.

Those are some classic Shaw Brothers kung fu movies that you don't want to miss.

Lieh Lo plays the awesome villianous priest.

Is he the villain?

The two good guys seem to go around punching people in the nether reasons a lot so I can't say for sure.

Ching-Ching Yeung is an awesome female martial artist.

It's really interesting to see the way that a female fights in contrast to a male especially in a fast paced movie like this one.

What's the plot?

This movie has a really awesome plot and Kill Bill is actually sort of based on it. At least one part of Kill Bill is and that is the five finger touch of death.

The White Lotus Priest uses the same move in such a way where if he touches you you will die in something like seven seconds.

I think they rounded it down to five for Kill Bill.

Having said that the plot is actually very simple.

A monk tries to get revenge for his friend or cousin or something like that against the evil white priest.

That same monk had already killed the evil white priest's friend though so there's no telling who is actually the bad guy.

The real plot is that there's this white priest that is almost invincible and this monk decides he absolutely has to kill him no matter what he continually tries to fight him over and over again.

In doing so this monk has to train in various different techniques.

He's finally taught a woman's technique of fighting and that is very interesting to see while watching him fight the white priest.

It's a great action Kung Fu flick.

How does it compare to other Kung Fu movies?

I would probably count this in my top 20 because it's a great movie with tons of action and there is no point where you can't understand the plot.

Nobody does anything out of place and all the fight scenes are choreographed well.

I absolutely love Kung Fu Fighting especially when they use really crazy techniques and there are plenty used here.

There is also great music and tons of great scenery.

If you like Kung Fu movies you will love Fist of the White Lotus which is also called Clan of the White Lotus.
