A Tour of a TOP RANKED High School in China!

Hello Steem Blockchain!

In today's post, I want to show you the high school campus I have been teaching at for the past 4 years. This high school is ranked #1 in my city. Rankings are super important in China; the rank of your high school is important when applying for universities. A student from a highly ranked high school will have a better chance of getting accepted into a university opposed to a student from a lower ranked high school with the same score.

It has to do with how their education system works. But that is for another blog post!

Today, I bring to you a tour of Qinhuangdao Number 1 High School!

When you enter the school gate, the first building you will probably see is this building: the auditorium. This auditorium hosts several events throughout the year. When students celebrate a festival like the Spring Festival, they will host an event here and have performances, speeches, etc.

On the left side of this building, you have the male and female dormitory.

The boys' and girls' dormitory look identical. In each room, you have 3 bunk beds that house a total of 6 students per room!

If you continue walking left, you will see the teachers' apartment. This apartment has treated me well over the years and I don't mind living on campus at all! The apartment is comfortable and fairly modern.

A lot of the Chinese teachers live here. People from different parts of China work in other cities. Whenever teachers that originally come from other cities or provinces work here, they get their own apartment room to live in.

Next, behind the auditorium is the Service Center. This area includes 2 supermarkets, a bookstore, public bathrooms and 4 cafeterias. Students are pretty much at school for the whole day. As a result, they eat breakfast, lunch and dinner on campus. The supermarket allows them to buy things like snacks and beverages.

To the right side of the service center is the Science Building! I have never actually been inside this building but I presume it has a bunch of labs with different scientific equipment. Regular classrooms just have tables and chairs so I guess this building has chemistry sets and all that jazz.

As I was walking past this building, I saw many students arrive on a bus and they all started waving to me! That's one of the perks of being a foreign teacher in China: you get easily recognized and everyone wants to talk to you!

Finally, if you keep walking, you will get to the main teaching buildings. There is a building for each grade. They have a different grade system in China. The students that we would call Grade 12 in Canada are called Grade 3 here. Subsequently, Grade 11 students would be Grade 2 and Grade 10 would be Grade 1. It can get confusing for some foreigners because if I say I had to teach my grade 2 students calculus, they would say, "wow, already! They are so young!"

The front building is for grade 3 students, middle is for grade 2 and the furthest building to the back is for grade 1 students.

If you watch my video, you will also see their athletic facilities!

This high school is better than any high school I have been to in Canada. The high school resembles a small university campus!

Hope you enjoyed this post and I will see you all later!
