The biggest star on the planet

Everyone loves to watch movies and everyone has his own favorite star, be it from Hollywood or Bollywood. But in my eyes one star that has captured millions of hearts all over the world and needs no introduction is the mighty - AMITABH BACHCHAN, popularly know as "Big B", the greatest Indian film star ever, who has ruled the film industry for over 40 years.

I was 13 years of age when I first saw his movie 'Deewar' and was straight away impressed by this man. His style, his looks, his acting made me crazy. I wondered how one man can possess so many qualities, but as I grew up I saw the charisma of this man and realized it was his sheer dedication and hard work that made him the superstar 'Amitabh Bachchan'. Since childhood, I have been a big of this man who has not only ruled the Indian film industry but also ruled the hearts of millions of people.

Born in Allahabad (India) on October 11, 1942, Amitabh Bachchan in his early days saw many ups and downs in his career, but after the release of his film 'Zanjeer' in 1973, Amitabh Bachchan did not look back, he took the whole nation by storm with his role as an angry young police officer. It was after this he was labeled as "Angry young man". There were many hits that came one after another, but one film that changed the concept of Indian cinema was 'Sholay' starring none other than Amitabh Bachchan. The film ran over five years in Mumbai's Minerva theater, In this five years period it broke every single record and made Amitabh Bachchan the number one star of India, since then he has been heading the list, even today at the age of 73.

Accident at the Bangalore University campus

One of the biggest nightmares of his career came when he met with an accident while shooting a fight scene for his film 'Coolie' in the year 1982, he was seriously injured in the intestines which resulted in internal abdominal injury and was immediately rushed to Mumbai hospital and was clinically dead for a couple of minutes. As the news of his accident spread, the entire nation came to halt. Everyone from young to old, boy or a girl prayed for the recovery of this man. He was given 60 bottles of blood from more than 300 donors, there was a never ending line, everyone wanted to donate blood and see the superstar of nation recover quickly. After more than a month in the hospital, Amitabh Bachchan was discharged successfully and resumed his work.

Kaun Banega Crorepati (KBC)
In the year 2000, when he was seeing the downfall of his career for the first time, the television show Kaun Banega Crorepati (KBC), the Indian version of British TV show 'Who Wants to be a Millionaire' was aired for the first time. The impact of 'Big B' on the smaller screen was such that the entire nation would be ready by 9:00 PM (IST) to watch the show. The show ran successfully for 10 years.

Awards & Achievements

  • In 1991, he became the first Indian actor to receive the Film Fare lifetime achievement award.

  • In the year 2000, he was crowned as the superstar of Millennium.

  • in 2000, he became the first Asian to feature at the London's Madame Tussauds Wax Museum.

  • In 2001, Alexandria International Film Festival in Egypt honored him with the 'Actor of the century award'.

  • In 2003, the French government honored him with France's highest civilian honor.

The above awards and achievements are just a few to list. Apart from awards that he has received, several books have been written about this great man. Today at the age of 73, he remains India's busiest star. Being A Star, A Superstar, A Megastar for 40 years is something that is hard to believe but when it comes to this man 'Amitabh Bachchan' nothing seems to be impossible.
