Steemit will change the world ?

Steemit could potentially save the world

Alright, let me explain.

I recently read a study where it said that the biggest issue for people not donating money is the lack of transpareny. Meaning, we as hard working people, don’t trust the non-profit and NGO sector. Obviously we want to know the value that’s created with our hard earned cash. So not knowing what percentage of our donation actually reaches the people in need poses a big problem.

Now let me propose a solution with the aid of Steemit.

What we have seen happening with social media networks in the past are two things. The first mover’s advantage and the first mover ‘s disadvantage.

Basically there are the early adopters who manage to get enough exposure, earn a reputation and establish themselves as a brand people want to connect with. Likewise there are those who try these things but fail. Which isn’t a bad thing because it makes for a multitude of people that come after them that use their failure as guidelines to succeed and establish a brand.

In the case of non-profits there are virtually no losers, or failures. I mean think about it, whether you are the first mover who makes it or you provide a learning opportunity for hundreds, possibly thousands of non-profits coming after you, it’s a win-win in the overall scheme of making the world a better place.

Okay, but why is Steemit so powerful for non-profits and changing the world ?

Well first of all with Steemit as a platform and everything recorded on the Blockchain you better believe non-profits on here essentially compete for transparency. Making it easier for us to pick a charity to commit to or give our votes and comments. Our attention. Which is the most valuable asset anybody can have.

Because let’s face it. It’s not that we don’t want to help. As a matter of fact we tend to be caring. We don’t want to see other people suffering.
But a lot of us don’t know where to start and so non-profits establishing a brand on Steemit could battle the transparency problem as well as be the first station for people to check if they want to donate.

Second comes the amazing fact that we don’t even have to donate our own money if we don’t want to. The beauty of Steemit for non-profits lies in the ability to attract money without needing to sell people on the idea of donating itself.

As with every other social media platform content creation is key. But on Steemit they can be rewarded for it monetarily. So a good use of their time would be to share their stories, their mission, what they have achieved. In return they can get actual money for their sweat equity. If people generally like what the non-profit is doing and they can bring value to Steemit, simply upvoting serves two purposes.

First, the non-profit gets closer to their goal of making an impact in this world.

And the second just as powerful thing that will happen is instant gratification for the curator. He or she can feel good about themselves and because of their comment or upvote the non-profit can fulfill its mission.

Then the next step would be to think about the idea of using the 50% that go to the curators and encourage them to donate that money as well. But that is up only to them.

Once a non-profit has established a good reputation for themselves on Steemit they can even create special donation posts. Kind of like flashmobs, where a lot of Steemit users just upvote a certain post.

Think about the media coverage this will attract. Which will be awesome not only for the non-profit but Steemit. It would send a tremendous message as to what this platform can achieve.

Another awesome fact is that the Steemit community can hold the non-profits accountable which serves as a larger motivator for them to reach their goals. This will create an amazing bond and remove any doubts what so ever.

Finally there could be stories of people who have been helped by the Steemit community. This is the principle of adopting a child in Africa for example where you feel connected to somebody who depends on your help and not just some generalized media news about “people dying somewhere” what you probably don’t care as much about once the TV is off again.

Think about the people that we then helped, thanking the Steemit community. Powerful.

Hopefully there will be organizations who take a leading example in this. After all they don’t have to lose a thing. They are on their feet all day trying to attract money anyways so why not invest some time into Steemit where you can see almost immediate results and have everybody feel good.

To sum this post up I would like to say that building a brand on Steemit is a fantastic opportunity to revolutionize the non-profit world. Everybody can feel good about themselves without a big effort or committing to anything.

Always remember:

One upvote a day, keeps the negativity away - and can potentially
change the world one vote at a time.

If you have friends or know people in the non-profit / NGO world I would appreciate you sharing the post with them and illustrating what is possible.

Cheers, hope you have a good one. Until next time.
