MUSIC YOU NEED TO LISTEN TO RIGHT NOW!! - #1

Here are a few im listening to - some old - some not so old. I hope you hear something that makes you feel something new!

  1. Theloneous Monk - 'Round Midnight
I have been listening to this song played on horn and on guitar since I first started playing. I never bothered learning who wrote it until I started playing piano. Theloneous Monk was a player from the 40s who composed this piece which has become one of the more popular "jazz standards".. In many peoples opinion his song is the only "jazz standard" written by a jazz musician. Imagine someone making this SOUND with his piano in the 1940s.

  2. Carole King - "Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow"
My absolute favorite version of this song is by Carole King in 1970 when she performed it at the BBC. The song has been played by a million different artists - but they all pale in comparison to this single performance :)

  3. Corrine Bailey Ray - "Since Ive Been Loving You"
Very interesting take on the Led Zeppelin classic - she doesn't try to blast it out like "Heart" did - its a very subtle and beautiful blues song that I think is expressed exceptionally well by her vocal. If you haven't heard the Led Zeppelin original - you haven't heard what an electric guitar was designed for!

  4. Jim Croce - "Operator"
Some of you probably don't know Jim Croce and you need to know Jim Croce because he was amazing.

  5. Stevie Wonder - "As"
All I can tell you about this one is that Stevie has won more grammy awards than anyone else alive or dead - he is the best there is when it comes to melody. His songs can range from pop to jazz - often time its a fusion of the two. This song is an experience if you pay attention!
