Causes Of Frequent Urination 19/1/2018

When we get older our bodies function in ways that might not always please us perhaps like most father's mine sometimes likes to warm me about certain bodily functions which many of us start to lose control over time.

One I have noticed from my father is getting to use the toilet its become alot more urgent when the need suddenly strikes.
Have you ever settled down at the cinema and during the opening scenes you already had that annoying uncomfortable feeling that you need to go to the toilet despite having just been there just a little under half an hour ago when you walked in?
Well you could be suffering from an underlying health problem, our bladders suppose to store urine until we’re able to go to the toilet but are you often waking up at night needing to use the toilet or experiencing bladder discomfort?

It could be signals of a health issue.

So what are some of the more unknown causes?
Well caffeine and alcohol, caffeine has a diuretic effect, which means drinking coffee or unfortunately tea also will make you urinate more.
I think alcohol is a more obvious diuretic here but did you know you wee more than you drink when it comes to alcohol?

It sounds weird right?

Well according to the research from drinkware for every 1g of alcohol you drink the urine excretion increases by 10ml!

So for example lets say you are at the pub you drink a pint, at some point you will feel the urge to use the toilet to get rid of the liquid you just drunk, but then the crazy thing is an hour later you will need to go once again because of the added diuretic effect.

Does this explain alot of you nights out now? lol!

You see the alcohol suppresses the hormone vasopressin which forces the kidneys to reabsorb the water rather than flush it out, so the bladder fills up with liquid making you want to go again not so much later.

Another cause people dont realise is Diabetes needing to use the toilet often and producing a large amount of urine up to 3 litres a day is one of the main symptoms of both type 1 and type 2 diabetes.
Those with diabetes have abnormally high blood sugar levels and excess glucose ends up in the urine, causing more water to be drawn out of the blood.

One for the girls here, a urinary tract infection, around half of women are thought to get a urinary tract infection at some point in life but as well as needing to urinate more frequently you are likely to have a burning sensation when peeing.
More serious cases cause pain to your lower back, a fever and chills but most UTIs clear up on their own.

I guess I better mention the obvious one here also you might be visiting the toilet more often if you’ve been consuming lots more liquids then usual.

Lastly I will mention Overactive Bladder Syndrome its the sudden urge to go to the toilet or going more frequently, and sometimes leaking before you can even get there.
This actually affects as many as 1 in 6 adults it happens when the bladder squeezes without you having much or any control over it and often when it’s not even full.
The annoying scary thing is there's no known causes yet for Overactive Bladder Syndrome.

But something which seems to surround in controversy is if you should constantly answer your urge to go? Because its said if the bladder gets used to holding less and less urine it will become even more sensitive and more likely to go overactive.
But its also said you can do bladder training, those pelvic floor exercises you often hear about and there is also medication available to treat Overactive Bladder Syndrome.

The discussion and arguments are normally over whether or not holding it in to train yourself is healthy, or does it infact cause more damage this way.
