Maybe while reading this line, you might ask your self...
What do you mean with that?
Maybe you where just addicted to the game, and then you escaped from the real world into a game world.
No, nothing like that but il explain...
I am 39 years old and i was grown up with the first game console.
That was the Atari 2600 if am correct. I remember that i was 9, when my father bought me one for my birthday.
And one of the first game i played was a pitfall, and double dragon and another game with a small knight, who had to rescue a princes. And of course Indiana Jones with the raiders of the lost ark....this one was epic!
In those days the game console was revolutionary.
Until Nintendo game on the market, with Mario Bros and the Legend of Zelda.
When i saw the Nintendo i was sold, i had to have a Nintendo.
And i remember telling my father the hole year for that, then he could save his money to buy me one.
Yeah i was not stupid. :)
Then it was my birthday and got my first Nintendo, with the game the legend of zelda.
And right after it i got the legend of Link, the follow up.
The series of Zelda brought the game console to a complete other level.
The player could lost him self into a virtual world and do missions and rescue people or help people.
And after doing reaching a goal or finish a task, the dopamine in your brain will appear.
And that is responsible for the feeling of joy while playing games.
I could latterly lost myself in gaming.
Unfortunately i had a very chaotic personal life, because the surrounding situation was not good for a kid.
I had a hard time trying to be a kid, because every time there was trouble. And then i had to take care of myself.
From my 12 to my 20 i stopped play non stop video games, because i did not have one regular place where i could stay. I was forced to live in different places, and in some areas i could not play video games.
I only play when i was at a friend house.
And many friends had a home, and two parents who love the kids.
They had their own room, with lots of toys and a game console in there room.
And i was not jealous, but i just loved to have something like that.
My very own place where i could play games and have some fun.
Unfortunately in my child hood i did not have much chance to have that, until i met my woman.
When i met my woman, she gave me love and a home.
Were i could lay my head down and relax, without getting in trouble by my family or the situation i was in.
And one of the first games i started to play was on a laptop, this was in 1999.
That was populous and in the years after that i played Command and conquer, and Call of Duty online.
Mostly first person games on the pc. It was like i changed from a game console to the pc.
And when i was 25 years i opened my first business, it was a internet cafe.
But in the evening and weekend i invited my friends, and then we created a LAN party.
We played Command and conquer Generals zero hour with each other.
Those battles were epic and we played till far in the morning.
Well it was my business,so i could do that.
And my woman was also a gamer , so this was a win win situation.
Then after a small while my brother gave me a game to play, that was warcraft 2.
It was fun and had a short story in it.
I did not remember much of it, but not long after warcraft 2, i noticed the game warcraft3 Reign of Chaos.
Well that was a complete other story.
Warcraft 3 is a game, with different factions.
And then you can play every faction in a huge story line.
It's like playing a story and reading a book in one.
When i was finished with the story line, i saw that there is another warcraft 3 game, called the Frozen throne.
So, i had to get that, because the story line of Reign of Chaos was epic.
It's like seeing a good movie, and then you hear that the story goes on in another movie.
Then you have to see that right?
Then i played that game and saw the story line of Prince Arthas and the Frozen throne.
That was a very epic game, because the story line is very good.
It was that good, that i had to look into the small book of that game,to see more of the story.
And then i saw something about the world of warcraft.
I saw a picture with five characters fighting a huge dragon.
And that it was a Mmorpg, i never heard of that.
It was a game where players can log in the virtual world of warcraft.
When i readed that in the book of warcraft 3, then i had to test the game out.
Then i bought the game of warcraft, this was in 2006.
And in that year i was mixed up with personal problems around us.
There where people who gave us a hard time in our private life, and with business affairs.
So, when i bought world of warcraft, i could latterly escape real life and got in a unknown virtual world.
At first i did not know what to think of the game, i just made a character and started to do missions and slowly i when further and further into the game.
In some way it was great to play in the story line of warcraft, but it was also strange that i started to meet real life people in the game.
I became friends with a group from Romania, Denmark, England and from everywhere really.
And first i was alone, then someone invited me into a guild and there i saw more people from all over the globe.
It was weird and strange in the same time, because in that game it doe sent matter where you come from.
The only thing what matter is, what type of player you are.
You could be a individual and do everything solo, or you can play with friends and start to create a group.
And i was a hunter, the idea that i had a pet with a gun, gave me a nice feeling in a unknown world,so i was a hunter.
And real soon i started to be a good player, and started to lead groups in instances.
Together with my woman, we are a strong team.
She is a healer and i was doing dps ( damage per second ).
Then on one day we came in a situation that the guild leader was gone, and the group needed a leader.
And they all said that i should be the guild leader, because i was always leading groups in instances or on missions.
So, i took the job as guild leader and started first with doing a lot of 5 man mission groups.
That is like going in a castle or house, and then we need to kill every mob inside with the bosses.
In some instance are 3 bosses and others more, and every boss drop an special item , what one of us need to upgrade our character. But it always start with 5 man group instances, and the next level was 10 man group instances.
What is very difficult to organize, because the leader have to give commands to the whole group and that is difficult with 10 people.
But i learned fast and manage to kill Drakkisath, by kiting him away from his ads.
Yes those days where very funny, because if i made one mistake with kiting, it was game over.
General Drakki needed to be tanked with two tanks, because he always stunned one.
And that was a problem if his ads are still alive. Ooo yeah i remember this fight like it was yesterday, just epic in one word.
And the only way to succeed these fights, is to be in total control of the group.
That is the job of the leader, to give the right commands on the right moment.
And the perfect group should listen.
That was what we had, we managed to create a group of friends.
Who came from different countries and are no kids, but grown ups who have kids are playing that.
Like me and my woman, we only played when our daughter was in bed.
And then we forget about the private dramas in our life and took a drink and a snack, and when to play world of warcraft.
We even had a English soldier who just got back from Iraq, playing together with an Iraqis citizen like friends. So, in real life they were enemies but in the game they are friends, that's how insane it was sometimes. How could they be friends in a game, but outside the game enemies?
That also counted for me and my woman, we had a hard time in those days.
And it's difficult to explain what had happened, but while we had a hard time, we played world of warcraft and completely forgot about our daily life. Because every time we when further and further into the game.
When i first started as a solo player, i ended up as Guildleader and raid leader.
That maybe sound easy, but try to command 25 man to defeat a boss without team speak.
When i started with raiding, Blizzard had just opened the gates of AQ and not long after that came Naxxramas. And Zull Gurub,Molten core, BWL, and then the new expansion came of the Burning Crusade, then the next expansion of the Lich King.
Then Cataclysm, and then we stopped with the expansion of the miss of Pandaria.
Right after that we stopped playing WOW.
After 5 years of playing world of warcraft, and being a guild leader and raid leader we stopped.
Yes we stopped because we got bored with the game, the challenge was gone.
It was to simple or to easy and there was almost no strategy needed to succeed in something.
And then it was game over for me, because the challenge was gone.
The only thing what was difficult, was to leave the friends i made in the game.
I lost count of the people i met in the game, but i could not stay in the game only because of friends.
Then i would have lost myself in the game, and that was not the case.
I saw the world of warcraft as a way to escape the drama in real life, what i could not escape from.
I had to deal with the problems, and overcome them to get out of that situation.
And while i was struggling to keep my head above the water, did i manage to log mentally into another world and completely forget about some issues , only for a couple of hours.
The results of gaming World of warcraft leaded to, that i regain new energy from it, every time i finished a epic battle or a fight.
Then when i was done playing, i jumped back to reality and faced every boss what came in my path.
In fact this is just an example of how i dealt with stress situations, and i used unpurpess world of warcraft to regain new energy.
But basically you can replace WOW with anything to calm your mind down.
And then you can regenerate new energy from the joy you get from any game or anything what relax your mind.
Because if you don't do that, then your brains have a hard time to regenerate energy for the next fight or situation you have in real life.
So, what am trying to say with this post is, you need to have something to relax or to have fun, because only then can your brains generate energy to solve your problems in real life, or to create a better solutions for your life.
And yes, i still miss the game sometimes, the fight and the challenge and maybe in the future i might log in again.
But for now, i am gonna lose my self in blogging and Sinzzer is taking a break.
But if you ever consider to play world of warcraft.
Then my advice would be, start with warcraft 3 reign of chaos and then the expansion the Frozen throne.
Then you can play the story line before you enter the world of warcraft.
Thank you for reading.
