Halloween's around the corner! Are you going to have fun? HALLOWEEN is a contraction of "All Hallows' Evening". It's the eve of the Western Christian feast of All Hallows' Day. However, did you know from where the festival's originated and why we do "Treat or Trick"? If the answer is "YES", then let's go!! 🎉
還有幾天就到萬聖節了，大家有沒有對這個節日產生過好奇呢？其實，萬聖節應為"萬聖節(All Saints' Day)前夕"，中文常訛稱為為"萬聖節"。在西方，傳統認為萬聖夜是鬼怪最接近人間的時間，是不是與我們所了解的盂蘭節很像呢？不過，大家想不想知道萬聖節的起源、我們為什麼要"不給錢就搗蛋"呢？如果答案是"想"，那就讓我們看下去吧！🎊

# The origin of Halloween👻:
It originated from "Samhain", an "ancient pagan festival celebrated by Celtic people over 2,000 years ago." The Celts believed dead people could walk among the living at this time
萬聖節的來源👻: 萬聖節來源於"薩溫節"，是塞爾特人在2000年前慶祝的一個"古老的教外節日"。塞爾特人認為，逝去的靈魂會在萬聖節這一天出動，與活著的人並肩而行。
할로윈의 기원👻: 할로윈은 2000년전 켈틱사람들이 행하던 행사였어요. 켈틱사람들이 이날에는 죽은 영혼이 다시 살아난다고 생각했어요.

during Samhain, some Celts offered sweets to the spirits to appease them. Others wore ghoulish costumes so that wandering spirits would mistake them for one of their own, therefore leave them alone. In medieval Europe, the Catholic clergy adopted local pagan customs and had their adherents go from house to house wearing costumes and requesting small gifts.
萬聖節服飾及"不給錢就搗蛋"🍫: 在薩溫節，有些塞爾特人會把糖果送給亡魂，讓他們得到安撫; 另外的人會穿上鬼怪的服飾，讓孤魂野鬼以為他們是自己的一份子，所以不會去傷害他們👹。在歐洲中世紀，天主教的神職人員接受了教外的服飾，讓信徒穿著這些服裝到每家每戶討小禮物。
할로윈 의상과 "맛있는 것을 주지 않으면, 장난칠 거야"🍫: 이날에는 켈틱사람들은 귀신 모양으로 무섭게 복장했어요. 왜냐하면 이렇게 하면 귀신이 자기도 귀신이라고 생각시켰어요. 그래서 귀신이 자기를 상해하지 않을거라고 생각했어요👹. 또한 켈틱사람들은 유령을 위무하기위해 유령에게 사탕을 줬어요. 그러니까 지금은 아이들이 괴물이나 유령 복장하고 다른 집에 찾아가 사탕을 달라고 해요.
Jack-o’-lanterns🎃:
In medieval Britain, “supplicants moved from door to door asking for food in return for a prayer for the dead,” and they would carry “hollowed-out turnip lanterns, whose candle connoted a soul trapped in purgatory.”🕯️ (Halloween—From Pagan Ritual to Party Night) During the 1800’s in North America, pumpkins replaced turnips as they were easy to hollow out and carve.
萬聖節南瓜🎃: 在中世紀的大不列顛，求助者會逐家逐戶為亡者禱告，以換取食物。當時，他們會拿著掏空的蘿蔔，而蘿蔔裏面的蠟燭代表著在煉獄中的靈魂🕯️(Halloween- From Pagan Ritual to Party Night)。在1800年代的美國，人們開始用南瓜代替蘿蔔，因為它們更容易掏空以及雕刻。這就是為什麼南瓜會成為萬聖節的標誌了！
잭오랜턴🎃: 영국사람은 중세 시대 할로윈에 집마다 가서 기도했어요. 그래서 집주인이 이사람에게 음식을 줬어요. 옛날 사람들이 무를 가지고 갔어요. 무안에 양초가 있어요. 이 양초가 "죽은 영혼"을 상징해요. 근데 1800년대부터 사람들이 무대신에 호박을 상용해요. 조각하기 더 쉬워서요!
