Each day that I get to spend with Evie is filled with joy, love, frustration, and tears. I'm often left wondering who's child this really is, while other times supremely grateful that she is mine.
Yesterday (February 27) I took a few videos to document some of the cute things she did during the day, and I thought I'd use them to give you toddler version of a day in the life. I've also added a few other images and videos taken on other days, for the re-telling.
5:30 am Andre and I wake up, and he starts getting ready for work. While he's getting ready, Evie wakes up crying. Now, usually, she'll sleep till about 8am, but this past week or so she's been going through a sleep regression, so sleep has been rough. For both of us.
Andre gets her out of bed, loves on her for a bit, then passes her to me and he leaves. After he's gone, Evie and I lie down in my bed. She nurses and I enjoy a few extra minutes to doze while cuddled with her.
When we're both a bit more awake I turn on Phineas and Ferb and leave her to play in the living room. Then I go make my coffee. Feeling a bit sleepier than usual, I make it a two cup kind of morning.
A little while later I make her some oatmeal (apples and cinnamon, yuummm). I decide that we should try to work on those fine motor skills, so I hand her the spoon to feed herself.
She eats the last bite and I say, "all gone!" She repeats the words, very quietly, but this time I'm able to get it on camera.
I put our breakfast dishes in the kitchen and start some cleaning while she plays by herself in the living room. Then I decide to rest on the bed with my laptop and do some work. The bed is a lot more comfortable than my desk chair, and it's easier to have Evie climbing on me when I'm on the bed. At my desk, she climbs over the gate to get to me, and that's a little more tricky.
I then get to work on a story I'm working on, getting some brainstorming help from folks in The Writers' Block, and I look up to see Evie walking around the living room wearing my slippers.
Sadly, my battery life doesn't last long, so I move back to my desk, fighting off the climbing toddler. She eventually wins and I let her sit with me for a while, giving us a chance to perfect our hi-fives.
Then, finally: nap time. Glorious nap time. She goes down easily, falling asleep within just a few minutes. Could she, at last, be out of her sleep regression?
While she sleeps I wash some more dishes and remove some old food from of the fridge. Then I take a shower (gasp!), chat with my Discord buddies for a bit, and take a nap (double gasp!).
After our naps, followed by more cuddling, Andre returns home from work. I say to Evie, "Daddy's home!" and she runs to the window to watch him till he walks in the door.
Andre makes himself a late lunch, then goes into this office to work on his music. Meanwhile, Evie decides that mommy's slippers aren't enough and tries walking around with daddy's work boots.
Dinner time rolls around. We sit down to eat and turn on the next episode of Psych. When we get to the end, Evie gets super excited when the theme song plays during the credits.
Dinner is followed by Andre giving the cat a dance lesson, which greatly entertains Evie. He beat-boxes, and makes the cat dance to his beats.
After dinner I start getting her ready for bed. I make sure she has clean pajamas, says goodnight to daddy, then we cuddle while I sing her a lullaby. I lay her down in her crib where she latches on to her stuffed Elephant, Ellie. Just like her nap, she's asleep within minutes. Perhaps the sleep regression is really over!
I hope you enjoyed A Day in the Life of My Toddler! I was looking for something fun to post and came up with this, though it took me all day (no joke) to convert the videos to gifs, haha. Thanks for reading!
