Letting the Flip of a Coin Determine Where You Go – We Ended Up in the Most Amazing Place

When you have absolutely no idea where to go on a date, you suggest that you let the flip of a coin determine where you drive. This likely works better if you live in a populated place, but this is a great way to end up somewhere unexpected and have fun on the way. My wife and I decided to try this one night, and we weren't expecting much. I mean, a coin couldn't take us anywhere actually fun. Well, we were wrong.

We left our house and set off.

We flipped a coin whenever we would come to a corner. There are a few ways you can determine the choices, but here's how we did it. Before every intersection, we would do two coin flips. The first would determine if we should go straight or turn. If it was turn, the next coin flip would determine left or right. It actually makes for a really fun ride, and even if you don't end up somewhere cool, you have a blast getting there.

We kept driving, and eventually we got far enough away that we decided to start using the coin to determine if we should make a U-turn or turn into different places off of the main road. The important thing is that you don't try to sway the decision. Let the coin take you.

We eventually ended up turning onto a gravel road we had never seen before, and we ended up in a place we never knew existed. Now, we had both lived in the same place for a while and thought we knew the area well. We turned in right before sunset and found a 100-acre nature preserve that we had no idea was even there. We live in a fairly dense urban city, so it was a little surprising that we were unaware of its existence. The place was beautiful, and we immediately set out on a walk through the winding paths in awe that a coin took us here.

It was so unexpected.

Since we arrived right as the sun was setting, the lighting was beautiful, and the weather was perfect. Our whole time there, we were amazed that we could end up there by chance. Trust me, if you try this and end up somewhere like we did, you are going to be in shock too. But, don't blame me if you end up at a truck stop.

Enjoy the adventure, not the destination.

We spent a little over an hour there until it was completely dark. It was an amazing evening and all from the flip of a coin.

If you are going to try this, make sure you have a coin (duh) and a full tank of gas. You will probably want to think about how far you are willing to go beforehand so you can determine when you want to let the coin decide the final destination. I think it would be amazing to take a long distance trip this way. Just letting chance tell you where to go and where not to go would be incredible. Imagine traveling the country on this principle. Anyway, hopefully you enjoyed this adventure story and the photos! Let me know if you try it, I want to know where you end up.
