The Art Of Dreaming

Lucid dreams.jpg

Lucid dreamers are dream explorers, also known as oneironauts. Lucid dreamers are able to control what they dream about. Unrestricted by external physical laws and free of any social consequences, they are able to reshape their dreams while dreaming and, by doing so, live out extraordinary dream experiences. Only their imaginations limit what is possible in their dreams.

You can be a everyday John Smith on steemit while awake, and superman while sleeping. All the obstacles of reality can be set aside, as you make trips to the sun or the interior of the earth or test your martial art skills on your worst enemies.

What does the term "lucid dream" mean?

Lucid dreaming means dreaming while knowing that you are dreaming. The term "lucid" means clear, lucid dreaming is more than just having a clear dream. To have a lucid dream you must know that it’s a dream while you’re dreaming. That's it. It doesn't require that you can control anything in your dream, though control is what beginning lucid dreamers often aim at. People get attracted to lucid dreaming because they want to be able to do things they could never do in waking reality, for example, taste fire or fly to the sun. More and more experienced lucid dreamers are realizing the benefits of lucid dreaming. You can use it to explore the boundaries of your own agency and the limits of the universe.

Why should I have Lucid dreams?

Upon hearing about lucid dreaming for the first time, people tend to often ask, "Why should I want to have lucid dreams? What are they all about and there use?" If you consider that once you know you are dreaming, you are restricted only by your ability to imagine and conceive, not by laws of physics or society, then the answer to what lucid dreaming is good for is either extremely simple (anything!) or extraordinarily complex (everything!). It is easier to provide a sample of what some people have done with lucid dreaming than to give a definitive answer of its potential uses.

How long to learn Lucid dreaming?

The speed with which you develop the skill of lucid dreaming depends on many personal factors. How well do you recall dreams? How much time can you give to practicing mental exercises? Do you use a lucid dream induction device? Do you practice diligently? Do you have a well developed critical thinking faculty? And so on.

If I die in a Lucid dream will I die in real life?

Dying while having a lucid dream is something a lot of people worry about. It can even stop them from wanting to become lucid in the first place. Just because some Hollywood films try to scare you it doesn’t mean it’s true, or does it? I’m just going to tell you now for fact: You won’t die in real life if you die inside your lucid dream. You might wake up in your bed, or you might wake up inside another dream travelling further down the rabbit whole.

You can learn to lucid dream

Lucid dreaming wouldn't be that useful if lucid dreams only occurred spontaneously during sleep. Lucid dreaming is a learn able skill. Scientific studies have led to the development of cognitive techniques that anyone can learn to apply in order to have lucid dreams deliberately. Source

Thanks for reading I hope you found this as fascinating as I do. Personally I have been practicing lucid dreaming now for over seven years. In this post I have posted only the basics to get a feel for how the community responds here on steemit as there is a lot of information on this topic. I will focus my next post on 'The Art Of Dreaming' on the comments and feedback I receive.

Many Thanks
