Yesterday before reaching the working place, I was attracted by a man that was watered by another man with a water pump.
Yesterday at 2 pm there were 42 degrees and I stopped myself because his face expression make me curious.
I was only walking and I was completely sweat but he was working below the sun with those incredible high temperature. Crazy!
I couldn't move anymore as I was looking at him, I was looking how he was suffering during any single working movement he was doing and after few seconds he saw me and said: "Study my dear boy and whenever you can run away from Italy, because my life is a shitty life!!!"
So I did ask: "How can you work at this temperature? There are 42 degrees; it is not normal working at this conditions!"
He replied: " Yesterday together with a colleague we lost the sense and we went to the hospital with an ambulance, but my boss wants that within next month will be all ready, so I have to work if not I will not receive my payslip. 4 years ago I was working for FIAT car's group, then they fired me as they didn't needed more employees. I have a family with 2 children and I had to find another way to find the money to bring back home. Today I am doing the road worker and for them I can work 24/7 only to see them smile and give them the chance to have a good life. I have a huge pain on my back, sunburned skin but I have to work..."
I had to go to work so I left him wishing him all the good luck and he wanted to give me a cold beer he had in his termos fridge. I refused and I went to the closest bar to buy a couple of cold beer for him.
He said: " you are a good guy and I wish your life will smile to you forever..."
Then I went back on my way to go to work but I couldn't stop thinking about that man as he literally impressed me, a man and a father. Yesterday for causality I met a hero that nobody consider as so. There are people that are breaking their back, their hands and the souls for few hundreds euros per month.
Don't call them road workers...
Call them simply heroes!
