Is this a flower or a weed? It seems to have good protection and I think the tiny spikes would deter predators who might want to attack these tightly closed buds.
I really love the colors in this flower-to-be and I am glad I got in for a close up. This was one of the many interesting plants I saw on a tour of the Denver Botanic Gardens when I took a trip to Colorado the summer after high school graduation.
