Nigella Damascena - My Macro Photography

These exotic beauties are related to boring old buttercups. In parts of Asia, they grow very freely in the wild.

Apparently their seeds contain Damascenine; a toxic alkaloid. I love how so many plants I research end up containing interesting compounds with pharmaceutical uses.

Colloquial names include:

  • Love In A Mist
  • Ragged Lady
  • Devil In The Bush

You couldn't make this shit up. Check out the wiki page if you don't believe me.
