Mom Prom/Part One
"Yes to the Dress"

I'm not going to lie.
Like a giddy teenager, one of the
highlight events I looked
forward to attending during my son's
final year of high school was
the "Mother/Senior Son Prom,"
dubbed "The Mom Prom."
It was to be a very special night hosted
at a five-star hotel with a sitdown dinner,
music, and an evening of dancing --
exclusively for mothers and their
senior sons.

I'd waited eighteen years for this
special once-in-a-lifetime event and
almost didn't get to go due to my
son's water polo tournament
presenting a scheduling conflict.
Fortunately, at the last minute,
the coaches were able to move
the polo match an hour earlier on
the night of the dance which meant
we would have to rush to get
to "Mother/Senior Son Prom."
No time for my son to shower after
the polo game.
Missing the first round of dinner.
Minor setbacks.

My number one mission was to
find the perfect dress.
Have you ever tried to find
a cocktail dress for a "Mom Prom"
in April when the weather was still
freezing at night and retail stores were
already selling Summer apparel?

I checked online to see what a store
called Camille La Vie, had available.

I purchased my daughter's homecoming
and prom dresses from their store located
in the mall nearby.
My plan was to narrow my choices down
online, swing by the store, try on the
dresses on and purchase one.
Easy breezy -- stress free!

These were the two dresses I was
deciding between that I found online.

I made my way into the mall and checked
out the gorgeous dresses on display.

"Purple Passion"

"Simply Golden"

"Beautiful shades of purples"

I was greeted by an associate who asked
if she could help me find something.
Eagerly, I pulled out my smartphone
and showed her screenshots of the two dresses.

My mouth dropped when she informed
me the store doesn't carry everything
that's on their website.
"You've effing got to be kidding!"
I wanted to scream!
It was the night before "The Mom Prom."
I'd counted on finding the perfect dress there.
Surely I'd get lucky...
Time to browse around the store.

"Stunning!"

"Shades of lilac"

"Little Red Dress"

There wasn't a single dress that
appealed to me or was appropriate!

I was so disappointed-- and I had less than
an hour before the mall closed.
I hurried to my car and drove to
my favorite go-to store: "The Loft."
Surely I would find a dress there!

A lady was standing outside the entrance
to the store, trying unsuccessfully to open
the door.
It was a few minutes after 8 p.m.
and the store was supposed to be
open till 9 p.m.
What the heck?!
The woman told me she was supposed
to pick up an outfit that an associate
from another Loft store placed on hold
for her that night.
She planned to wear it the next day.
We tried to call the number at the location,
thinking the employee might have been in
the back room doing inventory.
No such luck.
Mind you, it was a blustery cold April night
and I already was disappointed from my
experience at Camille La Vie,
Things went from bad to worse.
Apparently this just wasn't my night....

Reluctantly, I went home and stayed up
until wee hours of the morning, trying
on all the dresses I could find in the closets
till I found something suitable to wear the
next evening .

Always have a backup plan!

Please stay tuned for my Part Two of "Mom Prom."

This is my entry to Market Friday
hosted by the lovely @dswigle
and for @gratefulvibes
