Factoring and expanding are opposite algebra operations of each other.

Square Numbers

With the difference of squares factoring, we deal with mostly even (positive) exponents and square numbers. It is helpful to know your square numbers such as 1, 4, 9, 16, 25, 36, 49, 64, 81, 100, 121 and 144 which correspond to their (respective) square roots 1, 2, 3, 4, ..., 12.

Remember that the square root of x (with x at least 0) can be represented with the square root sign or with exponents.
