This isn’t going to be a list of the usual suspects: Stamps/Coins/Baseball Cards/Records/Art/Antiques. It’s incredibly rare to come across any of these just lying around nowadays. No, this list will contain hidden gems that you might actually have or that you can pick up for super cheap at yard sales or flea markets. Heck, maybe you can swindle a buddy or two in the process!!
Let’s find out if you have any items that you can turn into cash.
Funko POP!
(Source: Poppriceguide.com). Frankenberry (Glow in the Dark) Recently sold for $3,211.00
How many of you have one of those vinyl figures just hanging around? Better yet, how many of you know there is a serious after market for these figures right now? Some of these $10 bad boys can command upwards of $3K. No joke. I am skeptical on how long the market for these figures will last, so here I my suggestion to you: go visit http://www.poppriceguide.com and check out if you have any that are worth some coin. If you do, throw it up online, get your money and run!
Shopkins
(Source: Shopkins Wikia. Cupcake queen was recently listed for just about $9,000 on eBay and sold to a best offer. What that is I don't know, but either way it's crazy)
Anyone who has young kids should know about Shopkins. For those of you who don’t, these little “mini-figures” look like everyday items that you buy at a store, they have eyes and creative names like “D’lish Donut” or “Apple Blossom”. One of the rare ones recently went for $1900 on eBay. Not a bad return on a 3$ purchase. Time to raid your kids’ collection. For reference Wikia has a listing and print runs of all the limited edition Shopkins. Just like the Pop! figures, I believe their collectability is time-limited, so get your $$ worth while you can!
LEGO
(Source: Bricklink. Considered one of the most sought after minifigs, Boba Fett is found in the Cloud City set)
LEGO has some of the most passionate collectors around. People actually make a living off buying and reselling LEGO sets. This is more of a long term investment as sets typically only rise in value after the sets retire. Once retired, sets can return 300% to 500% on the initial investment. Some of the more recent examples are LEGO Haunted House 10228 which now sells for upwards of $600-$700. Do you happen to have a Bobba Fett minifigure from set 10123 Cloud City? That is an easy $200. Brinklink has an excellent price guide for those interested.
Old Games and consoles
(Source: eBay. This pokeman game recently sold for $5K on eBay)
Have any retired game systems hanging around. There is a big market for some of the older Nintendo systems and games. Nintendo 64 systems are going for anywhere between $800 to $2K depending on the condition. If you happen to have any of the most sought after games they can also bring in a pretty penny. A Pokeman Yellow Gameboy cartridge recently went for $5K on eBay. Time to keep your eye open at yard sales and flea markets. Speaking of Pokeman….
Pokeman Cards
(Source: Pokemonprices.com. Espeon is considered the most valuable Pokeman card with a value of $1,400.)
Thanks to Pokeman GO, Pokeman has made a comeback! Time to profit on the over-zealousness of collectors. Some of the 1st edition Pokeman cards can bring in some serious coin. Here is a link to the TOP 100 valued Pokeman Cards: http://pokemonprices.com/top_100. Have any on the list? They can bring in a decent return if you do.
"Newish" Comic books
(Source eBay. I had a this run of Deadpool comics that i recently turned into a nice little profit)
I know I said I would not talk about Comics but I’m not talking about your parents vintage comics. Everybody knows those are worth a ton. Most of us in our 30s have cursed our parents for using them (and baseball/hockey cards) as target practice when they were younger. I’m talking about recent comics that, thanks to the movies have appreciated in value! My Deadpool comics were worth nothing, until the movie came out. Likewise with my Guardians of the Galaxy comics. Now they are worth a few bucks. Go scour your collection looking for forgotten gems and pay attention to the new movies coming out. Dr. Strange is coming out in November, that will surely give a boost to his comics. Likewise for Deathstroke who was just announced as being the main villain in the upcoming Batman film. His stock will surely rise as a result.
Happy Meal Toys
Need an excuse to go indulged in a Mcdonald’s fry? Tell yourself you are investing in your future. Happy Meal toys have quite a following and some have real value to collectors. The best part is it doesn’t even have to be the old stuff. Do you have a McDonald’s 2016 Powerpuff Girls Blue Sky Blosson toy? Because one just sold for $1,525.00 on eBay. Madness, just pure madness. Although individual toys can fetch a premium, complete sets seems to be where most of the money is. All you need to do is make a few guilt-free trips to McD’s.
Hope you enjoyed the list. Are you aware of other items that people can turn into a nice little profit? Please share in the comments below!
