Cubes in Astor Place

Astor Place is a short, two-block street in NoHo/East Village, in the lower part of the New York City borough of Manhattan

This first shot is of The Cube also known as the Alamo and also as the Astor Ploace Cube which was designed by sculpture Bernard (Tony) Rosenthal, s you can see it is pretty much an All Black Cube standing on its edge.

It was installed in 1967 as one of a series of 25 temporary Art Installations in the city, that were intended ot only be on display for 6 months.

However the Local residents petitioned theCity to keep the Alamo and it is still there today.

I could not find anywhere the significance of the name Alamo

And I decided to take this shot of the building that hosts on NYSC ( New York Sports Club) premises which from this angle I felt kind of fitted well witht is post and it has a cube look to it and I thought was an interestign looking building
