A Tower Watches the Coast - MonoMad

Taken from down below upon a small boat craft during a trim around the coastal vicinity of the Blue Grotto, just south of the main section of Dingli Cliffs in the South of Malta, April 2017.

This tower seems to try and blend into its surroundings as best as a tower can. It may no longer be used but it remains a silent testament to the defensive measures of the Maltese Islands in the 17th century.

Upon seeing an approaching threat the watchful occupants of the tower would light signal smoke fires, and other towers placed within eyesight would similarly convey the message such that the Islands were swiftly alerted.

Wispy clouds that dominated the day do mess with the contrast of the tower against the early afternoon sky. Being made of blocks of the same limestone rock a couple of layers down from the one it is perched upon, the tower simply fits in.

Again, I enhance the contrast through a simple overlay of a duplicated layer in Paint.NET. Also resized to 800x600 for sanity's sake. No other modifications made - and I hae left the shadow of what was probably a sea droplet upon the camera lens intact.

This is my Thursday entry for @brumest's MonoMad Photographic Contest (this week's theme - Buildings).
