MHKmusic update Feb. 20 – Feb. 26

At MHKmusic we rock out, jazz it up, honky tonk, chill out, get folked up, bring the soul and more!

Last week nearly all genres and styles of music were represented in one venue or another. Soulful Tower of Power blew away the audience at McCain. Robert Rodriguez and JahVelle Rhone scratched the Jazz itch on Wednesday and Friday respectively. Folk/Indie fans enjoyed The Ovaries-eez, either live or via radio broadcast by KSDB (91.9). Rock and Roll was kept alive with Headlight Rivals, Naked Fingers and Starving in Style at Church of Swole; and M31 brought the boogie to Bluemont Lounge. There was much more, but let’s not dwell on the past. Looking ahead, there is even more great live music coming up!

On Wednesday, Santiago Brothers will bring their melodic blues to RC McGraws on Wednesday while Daniel Dissmore and the Jazz Ambassadors entertain at Bluemont Lounge Open Mic will start at 9:00pm at the VFW, so if you are feeling inspired or just want to support other artists, be sure to come out! On Thursday Charlie Roberts is on at Bluemont Lounge and Jade Archetype will spit dragon fire at Auntie Mae’s. Friday night you can travel to Junction City for more Jazz, or head over to RC McGraw’s for a night of Red Dirt Country from Oklahoma. On Saturday you can get your Latin dance moves on with DJ Luis at The Hat.

@9:00pm Jade Archetype at Auntie Mae’s

Spawned from the incestuous loins of Aggie Central Station, forged and tempered in the fiery fields of the Flint Hills, Jade Archetype is an eclectic 4 piece ensemble hailing from Manhattan, KS. While Jade Archetype offers a soulful yet ominous, foreboding spirit, they are not the calm before the storm, but rather the electric phantom sensation one experiences in an end-game, pre-boss encounter. Their anticipatory rock antics paired with smooth and haunting melodies create an experience that can only be likened to a nice chilled glass of sweet tea, enjoyed from a precipice, overhanging a lake of raging molten lava. Originally members met to collaborate on strategies involving the breeding, training, and equal opportunity employment of dragons, however due to a current lack of advocacy groups, legislation proved to be too tiresome. After much debate, the amalgamation of funk and fiction soon gave birth to its current morphological state: Jade Archetype.
